THE fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon at a wholesale bakery, Ingapan, in the industrial area of Las Chafiras in Llano del Camello, San Miguel de Abona, has left the building virtually burned to the ground.
Over 50 fire-fighters from San Miguel,Santa Cruzand La Laguna, supported by volunteers from Granadilla, spent the night fighting the flames, which were visible from several kilometres away.
The fire-fighting service dispatched 15 vehicles to the scene, including two automatic ladder crews, six pump engines and numerous support teams.
Fire-fighters worked at all times on controlling the perimeter of the fire, in order to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent buildings, however they were unable to prevent the fire from completely consuming the bakery, due to the large quantity of highly flammable material inside. Fortunately there were no injuries, but the material losses were substantial.
At the time the alarm was raised, about 17:15, several workers were evacuated. As for the cause, sources said that it was still early to determine.
