THE Canary Islands will not have the flu vaccines until at least this weekend, the Ministry of Health has just announced in a press conference, adding that they are also considering taking legal action against the supplier.
The executive responsible believes that the vaccination campaign can not be restarted until Tuesday or Wednesday, November 13th and 14th. The reason for the delay is that the supplier wants to send the vaccines by boat.
In late October, the director general of the Canary Islands Health Service, Juana Maria Reyes, along with the Chief of Epidemiology at the Public Health Directorate, Domingo Nunez, announced the withdrawal of the batch of vaccines ready for the usual campaign, after a warning was issued by the Spanish pharmaceutical Medicines Agency, due to the presence of a floating white substance in the pre-filled syringes, in some lots of the vaccine.
