Hi,

We are thinking of possibly moving to Tenerife and were wondering if a couple could live off 1200€ per month, that would include rent and bills?

Many Thanks

Hi,

You'll get plenty of "it depends" answers because you've asked a pretty broad question. But to give you a feel for things, rent is cheap - 400 will get you started, 100 for bills, 100 for supermarket shopping and 600 for everything else means I'm sure it can be done. And I am sure lots of people are living on a lot less.

It really depends on what you plan on doing with your time. Drinking, smoking, eating out, pets, car, internet / phones, activities, heath care, travel etc will all dictate how much fun you have.

A better question is where did I learn to do maths..... I was thinking "per week" but wrote "per month". So really my budget above is total rubbish.

Revised opinion - 1200 would be really tough and not alot of fun.

thanks for your reply. I thought it would be tight but we would have a lump sum behind us that we could fall back on.

Looks like the question should really read 'how little could a couple live on a month? We could easily live on about €10,000 a month if only we had it.

If you aren't OAPs you will need to factor in health insurance costs which can be quite hefty.

€1,200 a week ... I wish!

Good luck anyway.

How long is a piece of string???
Just depends on individual circumstances.

We lived on less than 200 euros a week on the rock & still ate out twice a week.
Having said that, didnt have any rent/utilities to pay,as they came with the job.
Hard to answer this one, as everyone has different outgoings/expectations.

all depends on where & how you want to live, we as a couple have lived n puerto de la cruz on 700 a month, 340 a month for a studio bills included, & the rest to live on, now living in a cheaper area in the north & paying 200 a month for a 4 bed canarian house, 25 a month for electic, & a gas bottle every 2 months, so it all depends on what you want :eyebrows:

I think the wording should be changed to ''survive on 1200€ a month''. You would not live on it.

Of course you could you just need not to live in a tourist area
