Calima is forecast for tomorrow Wednesday, December 12th and perhaps again on the coming weekend as the prediction is for winds from the east, which usually means warm air with possible calima.

Other than that we should continue to have mild weather, sunny with some cloud.

Thursday, December 13, 2012.

Good Morning from Puerto de la Cruz, where the sun is shining, the sky is partially cloudy and the air temperature is 19° at 09:45 am.

Although some weather sites predict a possible light shower here today, the Aemet is showing sun with a little cloud for today and the next three days.

Here's the view this morning over the valley as seen on the Bodegas Monje webcam in El Sauzal:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-fJQsWp6/0/L/Dec.%2013%2C%202012%20El%20Sauzal-L.jpg

And here's the Aemet weather chart, showing winds from the east from Friday evening onwards, giving clear sunshine from Sunday up to Wednesday, although forecasts made so far in advance cannot always be certain.

There's no more calima in the outlook for tomorrow.

Enjoy the warmth of the day, but get out your fuzzy socks and woolies for the chilly evenings.

http://www.pbase.com/canarybird/image/134436078.jpgFriday Dec. 21, 2012. Puerto de la Cruz.

It's a beautiful balmy calima day today, with winds coming from the east, a shade temperature at 25°C at 4:00 pm and a hazy blue sky.

The calima and warm weather is forecast to last tomorrow and Sunday, being even more intense on Sunday, Dec. 23rd with African winds coming from the southeast.

Here's the view at 4 pm from the Bodegas Monje webcam overlooking the Orotava Valley:

Be careful when coming in from toasting in the sun and going into a cool building or deep shade as the sudden change in temperature could bring on a cold.

Good Morning!

It's another sunny day here in the north and although the air temperature outside my window was 14°C at 08:30 this morning, it's gradually creeping up and at 10:45 am it's 22°C and rising.

Forecast for today is for sunshine over all the islands, light southeast winds with some calima, with increasing dust in the air during the latter half of the day.

Sun and clear skies are again forecast for tomorrow, Dec. 24th. There will be some cloud on Christmas Day, with possible light showers.

I hope everyone has been having a good Christmas.

We've been so lucky with the weather haven't we, and the forecast is for more sunshine and mild temperatures.

At this moment the sun is shining through a few clouds but I'm surprised to see some very black clouds in the northern sky.

They will probably blow away shortly though, but it may be raining somewhere over there.

Shade temperature is 22°C and winds are light.

The UV rating is down to 3 lately. (The summer high is 11 and 12.)

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-9sXNpwQ/0/L/P1170214%20redu-L.jpg

And as testament to the recent heavy rains we had in recent weeks, here's one of my grapefruits picked this morning.
I didn't weigh it but it is enormous and heavy. The tree has some lovely clean leaves as well, since the rains washed away some of those dreaded insects which have been causing leaf curl on most Canary Island citrus trees.

Friday 28 December, 2012....Puerto de la Cruz

We have calima again, with winds from the east bringing us that lovely warm air and clear skies which is forecast to last for the weekend and into Monday.

The calima dust should last through Saturday and Sunday.

Here's the view in La Paz today just after 1 pm. That little dab of snow on the top of Teide is nearly gone.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-TTQ2wFH/0/L/redu-L.jpg

and the warmth is bringing out the winter blooms of the flame vine (Pyrostegia Ignea) on hedges and rooftops:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-25NCWw8/0/L/P1170217%20redu-L.jpg

This morning my outdoor thermometer showed 13.5°C which I find quite frigid but it warmed up into the 20s as the day went on.

The houses stay cool though, so be careful coming indoors after baking in the sun. And expect a chill in the air after the sun goes down.

Have a good weekend!

Monday, December 31, 2012 Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning....for the last time this year!

Yesterday was a beautiful day with blue sky from horizon to horizon. The sun was warm, and the shade cool.

Today there's a lot of cloud and the possibility of a light shower, although it's been sunny since early morning.
Now at 09:40 the clouds seem to be winning.
Temperature at 08:10 was 15°C, and as I write this at 09:43 it's up to 18°C.

Here's how it looked yesterday afternoon in La Paz as I sat at an outdoor table for lunch:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-mz6fhWR/0/L/P1170234%20redu-L.jpg

And I have to brag a bit about my iceberg roses, that reliable floribunda that's capable of making a superb show of white blossoms on a low rounded bush.
This one has been carefully dusted with sulphur powder to keep away the mildew and fed with homemade compost by my Canary gardener.
Here it is yesterday morning:

Don't we live in a wonderful climate to have roses in full bloom in December!

So back to today's weather. Here's the view over La Orotava from Bodegas Monje's webcam this morning:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-hCbQGc7/0/L/Dec.%2031%20Am%202012%20Bodegas%20Monje-L.jpg

....and here's the cloud situation from above as seen on SAT 24's satellite view:

Aemet predicts sun and cloud apart from a possible shower today and tomorrow with more cloud with a good chance of rain on Wednesday.

Well whatever the weather, have a safe and Happy New Year and drive carefully....or better yet, take a taxi!

Monday, January 14, 2013.

Good Morning from Puerto de la Cruz.

We've been having good weather with a light calima which now appears to be over, and we have winds from the northeast, turning to east this afternoon continuing to Friday with good weather, sunshine with a little cloud.

Air temperature at 10:30 am is 18.7°C and humidity on my outside window 55%.

There are warnings for high seas along the coasts of other islands but not for Tenerife although there is a fairly strong breeze moving the palm branches this morning as I write this.

Minimum temperatures of 12° and 13° are expected to rise a little by next Sunday and the UV index rising from 3 to 4.

Here are some screenshots taken this morning from the webcams at Izaņa:

Good evening from Puerto de la Cruz. It's 11:30pm Friday and as the forecast for tomorrow shows some possible light showers in the north I decided to mention it here. There could be some strong winds up on top of Izana.

The weather up in mainland Spain will be very stormy over the next couple of days with high winds, rain and snow and the tail end of this low pressure sytem may bring us a few clouds and showers on Monday and Tuesday. Otherwise temperatures will continue to be mild.

Hoping that this January weather thread is soon put up as a sticky before February :tiphat:

Good Morning all and Happy Sunday!

We didn't see any showers here yesterday although the possibility was forecast.
But there could have been a few drops somewhere else as we had dark clouds overhead for a while before the sun won out again.

The outlook for today is again sunshine with a few scattered clouds.
Air temperature at 11:20 am is 24.2°C.

Showers are again forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with heavy coastal seas on Tuesday for all islands, and the north coast of Tenerife, seen below in the yellow alert from Aemet for Tuesday.

Here is the view at this time over the Orotava Valley on Bodegas Monje webcam.....clouds gathering:

Looks like we're going to have some wind on Wednesday as the weather office (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert not just for high coastal seas but now also for strong winds with gusts of up to 70 kph over all the Canary Islands from midnight Tues/Wed and lasting for 24 hours.

Better take down your parasols and store patio furniture Tuesday evening just in case.
Will update Tuesday if there's any change in this forecast. :tiphat:

Well today has been quite lovely here and although it was a bit breezy and with a few clouds, it certainly wasn't worth a yellow alert.

However I have no idea what may have been happening elsewhere on the island and won't know until I watch the local news tonight.
As the alert is for all islands, there could have been wind damage here or on other islands.

We had rain on Monday morning but by 10 am it had stopped and there was no more until a few drops in the evening.

Temperatures are mild, and the forecast for tomorrow is for more wind and high coastal seas, with a small chance of a shower tomorrow in the north.

Garden pics taken today at 6 pm, the "golden hour" just before sunset.

Saturday, January 26, 2013 from Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

It's a lovely sunny morning and the shade temperature outside on my window at 10:45 am is 21°C.

The Aemet forecast is for sun and clear skies this weekend and all of next week.

The current northeast winds will change Sunday evening to east winds and we know that brings warmer temperatures and sometimes calima.

The view over the Orotava Valley and Puerto de la Cruz is clear this morning on the Bodegas Monje webcam.

The UV index is rising, from 3 most of the past months, to 4 and now it stands at 5, so the strength of the UV rays is increasing.
Remember to wear sun protection cream.

Tuesday, January 29th from Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

We've been having wonderful sunny weather, a few clouds around but today and during the week we're forecast to have cloudless sunny days and warmer temperatures.

Shade temperature this morning at 11:30 am is 22°C with normal humidity of 64%.

Remember that the UV index has moved up to 5, so the sun's rays are getting stronger. We've had a low UV of 3 all winter and the top summer rating is 12 - 13.

Look at those little sunshine icons on this week's weather forecast:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-C9STrmg/0/L/Jan%2029%20Aemet-L.jpg

And note also the wind arrows showing the direction from tomorrow afternoon will be from southeast and east in the next days, bringing African winds and warmer temperatures with possible calima.

Look at the view over the Orotava Valley this morning. I expect we'll be soon seeing some green on the brown slopes of the vineyard in the foreground.
In summer those hills are green with grape leaves.

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from Puerto de la Cruz

Well as I predicted, the calima has arrived again and it's been a most beautiful sunny day here in Puerto. The calima should continue for at least one day more as sunny skies and east winds are to continue for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday the wind changes to northeast, could be a little cooler but east winds should be back for next Monday and Tuesday.

Air temperature at 4:20 pm this afternoon is a balmy 25.2°C and the air is dry, at 44% humidity. It still feels cool to sit in the shade though.

Downtown Puerto de la Cruz was busy this morning with many visitors. The outdoor restaurant tables in Plaza del Charco were full around lunch time.

It's nice to see how many shops are taking the trouble to decorate their faįade and exterior patio with benches, potted plants, shrubs and bright colours.

And I'm always impressed by the variety of fruits and vegetables to be found in the street market behind the main church. They even have cherries!

I've been up to Genoves this afternoon, glorious weather today, was a bit too warm in the South when we left Fraile (30ēC on my balcony in the shade - the calima's fault), but cooled down a wee bit by the time we got up to Erjos ... and it was nice seeing the greenery up that way again too, as it was all black the last time I saw it.... :)

Monday, February 4, 2013....from Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

We have sun, cloud and some breeze this morning and the air temperature at 11:20am in my garden is 22.3°, humidity a little dry at 52%.

Calima is forecast again for us from noon today and by tomorrow noon it should be more intense.

Here's the prediction for the dust coverage by tomorrow noon. Winds will be from the east by tomorrow evening for a day or two.

And here's the west and east views of the sky this morning from my house:

The barometer must be dropping a little as my little weather station is showing rain showers today. Well we'll have to wait and see.

Otherwise sun with a little cloud is predicted for tomorrow with a little more cloud and cooler on Wednesday.

Have a good day!
