MAYOR of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, and the Chief Inspector of Adeje’s Local Police, Tomás Estevez, presented a report on police activity for 2012 at a recent press conference, reiterating their commitment to maximum transparency.

Fraga noted that throughout this year the police have conducted 17,164 actions, split as follows:- 1,622 municipal services (insect infestation reports, public needs and reports of various kinds), 1,084 sanctions (camping, noise, public roads,) 159 social services (reports on minors, juvenile records), 150 urban (underground works, and works at precincts reporting), 514 for other municipal areas (secretariat, traffic, health and consumption, culture and sports,) and 4,041 notifications.

In terms of traffic, the officers conducted 11,306 actions, with 10,703 parking complaints and 19 complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol. To these figures are added 579 complaints referred to the Provincial Traffic (ITV, compulsory insurance, driving licenses) with all 11,306 sent on to the Cabildo for breach of transport rules.

Regarding vehicles removed from the street, the municipal towing service attended 6,014 situations.

Finally, police dealt with 154 disorderly conduct reports, 118 for drug use and 21 weapons infractions.

The Mayor emphasised the great work carried out by the 124 members of the Adeje Local Police, which “are an example of professionalism at the service of others, sometimes risking their own lives.”

The Mayor said that despite the current economic situation, the government team remains committed to improving the service offered by the local police to citizens. In this regard, he announced the addition of two cars and three motorcycles to the current fleet as well as additional officers.

The Mayor also stressed the importance of the local police in terms of tourist safety, saying, “The presence of agents prevents the presence of criminals and illegal activities and provides peace of mind to our visitors”
