How do I do the credit recharge on my iPad micro-SIM?

I have had a micro SIM card prepaid on an offer in November and when the 1Gb was used up went in the Vodafone shop and had 20euros of credit put on.The assistant said I must send an SMS message (she gave me a number) on the iPad to change the tarif(again gave me the code of the tarif) for 1GB usage for one month.It lasted only one week with less usage than the original and I couln't find out how to send the message.The message app seems to be only for my contacts.When I went back to ask she said it is because I didn't send the message but she didn't know how to send it either!Only on a mobile she could which I can too!Has anybody done the recharge on one of these cards?

I think it can only be done on a mobile, even with a dongle, they take out the sim and recharge on a mobile.
