Hi All,

I just bought a boogie board and tried it out at el medano beach... it was great to start of and i was having great fun but then i was taken out by the sea and although the sea was shallowish i mean i could stand the boogie board was a hinderance to get back to shore... i got a fright as i could see the shore but was in difficulties... i thought the wave would drag me back in but the waves were taking me out... i have seen the pro's doing it on you tube and it looks good and would love to be able to master it... If there is a kind lady who does this already as is on the tenerife forum could you possibly give me some advice... i really don't want to get rid of the boogie board and feel defeated.....

Many Thanks

Here's my advice,

Don't go boardboarding without Fins ever.

Don't go boardboarding in el Medano ever, well at least until you have fins and a very good eye for the sea, far too many current along that stretch. I wouldn't go boardboarding in el Medano and i've been surfing for 20 years.

Do go bodyboarding in Playa de las Américas, start off at Metropolis, below 2 meters you'll never normally get many riptides.

Do study the sea for 20 minutes before you venture out just to get an idea of the conditions, look for surface movement and pay attention to others in the water, are they drifting out or to one side are they constantly paddling to stay in the same place?????

Get a wetsuit too, even if its only a shorty. The sea might appear warm enough at first, but after a while you will feel it. The cold is a major contributor in incidents in the water.
