Any users of Windows Live Messenger may or may not know that this servce will close down on 15 March 2013.
Microsoft bought Skype last year and the service is being intergrated to this. It is possible to transfer WLM contacts to Skype.

I have moved this to the computer section and have stickied it.

Information that a lot of members will need.

The following link explains how to merge your Windows Live Messenger account with Skype for those unsure how to go about it.

Live Messenger had this nice "ask remote assistance" feature to support someone with computer troubles by watching or even taking over their deskop. Actually I use it a lot to help relatives. Will this also be available in Skype? As far as I know this will be a paying service... If so, thanks but no thanks.

no remote assistance that i know of but there is screen sharing in skype, which allows you to see the persons screen that could work to some extent i guess until they add it in, Or could install logmein on relatives PC and remotely control it not just from your PC, Smartphones and tablets too!

Another simple remote support program is AMMYY admin.

I'm now using teamviewer for remote assistance. It's perfect because it can be set to run as a windows service so the other party only has to switch the power on in order to give me access. The non-commercial version is free.

Teamviewer is a great program and one of the major players in the remote support field, and is perfectly safe.
One great thing they have is the 'instant support' version you just download and run when needed, then just delete.

I use it often with customers who needs help.
