Find the key with the £ sign. (on my UK keyboard the € is at the side of the No 4)
Press Ctrl, Alt and the key with the £ sign all at the same time.
If you don't have the £ sign on a key, you will have to open the character map via
programs
Accessories
System Tools
Character Map
find the £ symbol
copy and paste (you can do this via the mouse or Ctrl C AND Ctrl V

Thanks I found it. I held the ctrl and Alt with the number 3 and it shows.
So I had better remember that for next time.
Thanks
If there is no pound sign anywhere on your keyboard then the following will generate one:
Alt - 0,1,6,3

it's Alt 1 5 6 on mine...
it's Alt 1 5 6 on mine...
All the combinations given in the posts work on mine!:spin: I just always used Alt 0163!

The Alt - 0,1,6,3 works on my keyboard but the Alt 1, 5, 6 doesn't do anything.
Different keyboards obviously behave differently.
I think I will buy a cheapy UK keyboard as a spare.
or... just type GBP after the numbers. So for £300.00 you would put 300GBP.
