February 1, 2013 from Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning....Can't believe it's February already!

Another warm day ahead and the calima is still with us, and is expected to continue for the next two days at least.

Temperature this morning at 11:30 am is a warm 24.9°C and humidity is a low 29% in my sunny back garden.

Both the Aemet weather office and my desktop Accu weather predict possible showers on Sunday, with winds changing to northeast for the day, returning to southeast and east on Tuesday and Wednesday when we'll have sun with a little cloud.

Here's the calima view:

Hi Canarybird, we are arriving in PDLA on 21st Feb, you seem to be very good with the weather, are you able to access long range forecasts for when we arrive & if so are they fairly accurate or is that a silly question?? :sunbathe:

Just keep an eye on this... Adeje is the "county" of Las Americas (well half of it anyway - Arona is the other half) http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/prediccion/municipios/adeje-id38001

Hi Blinker...I usually check the Spanish weather office and a few other sites before making the forecasts but I find it's not possible to be accurate so far ahead in time. I'm sure you'll find pleasant weather down in PDLA and if there should be some rain, it never usually lasts for long. Just keep watching here on both north and south weather sites and you'll get a picture of our weather closer to your arrival date.

BTW we've been having light rain and wind here all day in Puerto de la Cruz today.

Tomorrow should be a little better with sun and some cloud. :)

Tuesday, February 5, 2013 .....from Puerto de la Cruz

Good Afternoon!

Well we have that expected calima today and all islands are in yellow alert until 3 pm today for poor visibility and possible respiratory problems caused by the dust in suspension.

I don't imagine it will suddenly clear up at that exact hour so do be careful when driving and avoid heavy exercise if you are susceptible to breathing problems.

Air temperature in the shade on my garden thermometer reads 30.6°C with the humidity low at 32% which is half the normal value.

Here's a couple of screenshots from the Izaņa webcams up in the mountain.

The first one is the "teide view cam" where you would normally see Teide in the distance. The second pic is a view from Izaņa down towards Guīmar:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-5x8gGPQ/0/L/Feb%205%2C%20calima%20Izaņa%201-L.jpg

Here's the view over La Orotava Valley and Puerto de la Cruz on the Bodegas Monje webcam and below is the Aemet weather office chart showing the calima alert in force:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-LXLxzhf/0/L/Feb%205%20calima%20Monje-L.jpg

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-LLZ7zJ4/0/L/Feb%205%20calima%20Aemet-L.jpg

Forecast for tomorrow is for sun in the morning and cloud in the afternoon and Thursday.

We should still have east winds tomorrow afternoon and Thursday so that expected cloud could still be calima. It should continue to be warm.

So drive carefully and if the dust bothers you, better stay indoors until it passes. Otherwise enjoy the warm weather. :)

February 8, 2013 ....from Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

We've had some light rain this morning and the sky is a little dark. But we sure need the rain after that calima parched the garden soil.
We could use a good downfall to freshen things up again and water the plants. Preferably during the night.

Temperature at 10:00 am is a cool 17°C and humidity is a little higher than normal at 66%.

The outlook is for possible showers today and more cloud over the weekend, moderate to strong winds from the northeast.
Here's the Aemet weather chart for the next days:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-MM6QWNC/0/L/Feb%208%20Aemet-L.jpg

But it's not all dark skies here in the north. Look at the view from up at the Izaņa SONG telescope installation looking southwest,
with the sea of clouds over the valley visible at right.

Well the sun will probably show up down here as well sometime today but do carry your umbrella if you're going out walking.

Whatever the weather, have a good day!

Sunday, February 10, 2013....Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

We have some clouds this morning and light winds from the northeast but we should also be seeing the sun today.

Current air temperature at 10:45 am is 18.6°C with humidity a littler lower than normal at 54%.

Tomorrow's forecast shows clear skies and sunshine with easterly winds from around noon.

Tuesday we should have sun and cloud with winds stronger at 25 kph.

Strong east winds should continue to noon Wednesday when the forecast is for a cloudy morning but a higher UV rating of 6.

Temperatures will rise from Wednesday up to next weekend.

Here's the view NW from one of the Izaņa webcams overlooking the Orotava Valley:

Temperatures are mild and we can't complain especially after seeing the snow piled up in Boston and New York.

And some things are bright even when it's cloudy:

Just back from a walk and I have to say it's cold and windy outside today.
Didn't notice so much wind earlier but it's very breezy and chilly! And the sky is full of grey clouds.

Even tourists are wearing jackets and windbreakers today. Oh well it's supposed to be warm and sunny tomorrow. :)

MM at the moment (10:00 am) it's overcast with a few spots of blue sky and the sun trying to break through.

Weather office forecast is for clear skies and sunshine which also shows on my little windowsill weather station.

Air temperature is 18°C and humidity is normal at 64%.

From tomorrow until mid Thursday we'll again have east winds which will bring higher temperatures.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013....Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

Well the weatherman sure didn't get it right yesterday did he when predicting clear skies and full sun all day.

It was a mixture of cloud and chilly wind with some sunny spells.

But today is looking better with an almost clear blue sky, a few clouds in the north and brilliant sunshine that looks like it will stay for a while.

Shade temperature at 11:00 am is 20°C with normal humidity at 60%.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-NQfZHm6/0/L/P1170601-L.jpg

Strong cool winds at 25 kph are still coming from the northeast bringing some high seas with whitecaps but we'll get east wind tomorrow afternoon and Friday morning, when it should get a little warmer and less breezy.

The above forecast is from the Aemet Spanish weather office.

Here is the forecast from TV Espaņol - RTVE:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-Xm3ghs3/0/XL/Feb%2012%20RTVE-XL.jpg

My browser weather from AccuWeather shows today will still be breezy with some clouds with possible showers tomorrow, again with winds at 25 kph and a high of 20°C.
It also predicts that Friday will be warmer.

February has always been a cool month and last year on February 17, we still had a full snow cover on Teide:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Other/Tenerife-North-Weather-2/i-xwZTvLL/0/M/P1140288%20sun%20%26%20snow-M.jpg

Remember that tomorrow and Thursday the UV index will be up to 6, which is considered high, so protect your skin.

Have a good day!

Hi Pooh....

Yes the date is correct. The snow lasted for about four days.

After checking my photo file for February 2012 I see I took 17 photos of Teide that morning and by the next day, the snow was still there but looking a little spotty.

Here it is on Feb. 18, 2012:

Well it hasn't rained here in Puerto but I can confirm that although it's been sunny it's been windy here again like yesterday and it's a cold wind.

Still blowing at 7:35 pm as I write. Dried the clothes nicely but if you wanted to sit outside for lunch or a drink, you needed to find a sheltered corner or go inside.

A Canary friend commented today that for years whenever she went out dressed up for carnival she had to put a coat on over her costume, as February was always chilly especially at night.

We had another cool windy day yesterday after some rain fell overnight Wednesday to Thursday.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-TrxRXnF/0/L/P1170614-L.jpg

The sky is overcast this morning and we have calima, so part of that sky cover is due to another round of suspended African dust.

Here's the dust forecast for noon today:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-cLHxbJ6/0/L/Feb.%2015%20calima-L.jpg

Temperature at 09:45 am is 17.5 °C and humidity is a little higher than normal at 68%

The forecast for today is for sun with a little cloud, light winds from the north and northeast.

More sun and less cloud for Saturday and Sunday with sun and possible showers on Monday.

Although the UV rating is at 5 for today and Saturday it's expected to rise to 6 again for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

So although my garden view so far this morning is a little dark and gloomy:

Good Afternoon!

The rain came pelting down here about 1:30 pm today and lasted for about half an hour. We had this much:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-sb5HMSZ/0/L/P1170634-L.jpg

It certainly spoiled the British Club lawn bowling event scheduled for today at Alvaro's tennis club.
The members arrived all dressed in their whites and ended up in the cafeteria, shaking off their wet umbrellas while ordering lunch and drinks instead.

However as I write this at 3 pm, the rain has stopped and the ground looks like it may dry out.
And I'm sure by now the bowling club members may even have swept away the puddles and continued with their games.

Temperature now is 18.8°C and the sky is still overcast. It could still rain again though today.

Here's the scene over Puerto de la Cruz from the La Quinta webcam:

Good Afternoon!

Beautiful sunny day here on this side of the island.

Air temperature at 12:10 pm is 27.6°C and humidity in my garden is low at 42%.

Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will see a few clouds but Sunday we should have clear skies and sunshine with east winds which could bring a light calima again for Sunday and Monday.

Good evening!

We've been having warm, dry weather here without any of the rain that happened in the south, although I heard there was a light drizzle all day Wednesday in La Orotava.

Current air temperature is 20.9°C and humidity is a little low at 55%.

However some wet weather is on the way, starting perhaps tonight, early tomorrow and until noon tomorrow, when there should be sun and cloud in the afternoon.

But there's an orange alert out for Sunday for heavy rain from 12 noon until midnight for the whole island with strong winds especially in middle altitudes oriented to the south and west.

Winds will be coming from south and southwest, with gusts of up to 120 kph, noted especially in La Orotava and Vilaflor.

Winds of up to 100 kph are expected on east, south and west coasts beginning Sunday noon and lasting until midnight.

Looks like more rain is expected for Monday with winds from the west.

The temperatures are expected to stay mild, but be careful of the heavy winds and rain on Sunday, when we'll be feeling the main part of this storm which is already affecting the western islands.

Have a good weekend, whatever the weather. I for one will be so very glad to see a good drenching of rain on my garden. :)

Saturday, March 2nd... early evening.

We still haven't had any real rain although a few drops fell last night, just enough to dampen things a little but no real rainfall.

The morning was cloudy but the sun came out and it has been a beautiful afternoon.

Temperature at 7:00 pm is 20.4°C and the sun has just gone down leaving a pink sky:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-gkK3nbL/0/L/March%202%20Monje%20PM-L.jpg

But tomorrow should be a different story as predicted by Aemet, when this storm arrives at Tenerife.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-ngDgDj8/0/L/March%203%20-%20Aemet%20orange-L.jpg

And now it looks like it will continue with high winds and heavy rain all of Monday, still with gusts of 120 km/h up at altitude and at 100 km/h on the rest of the island, although on Monday the north coast will have a little less, with gusts up to 70 km/h.

Well I'm still looking forward to the rain....just hope the wind doesn't do much damage though!

Take care...

Monday, March 4, 2013 Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning....how did everyone sleep last night?

Temperature is mild but I've brought my little weather station inside the house so can't give exact temperature.

Yesterday morning we had brilliant sunshine and blue sky with breezes here, with unusual cloud formations.

Teide was wearing a hat, which indicated strong weather ahead and there were dark threatening clouds passing over.

The afternoon was as predicted...the sky darkened and the wind came up, but temperature stayed around 23°C so it was a warm wind.

Teide's sombrero was hidden by this long cloud:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-mRFBvSk/0/M/IMG_1805-M.jpg

Still no rain until the night when we had some thunder and lightening, the rain started and the wind increased.

There wasn't much rain around my house though. Here's what was collected during the whole day and night:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-hV8MWX8/0/M/P1170727-M.jpg

The RTVE newsman said the wind reached gusts of 199 kms per hour up on the mountain top, which is the same as a hurricane force 1.

Red alert continues today for the highest areas of Tenerife, for all of Gomera and El Hierro and the east coast of La Palma.

The wind is now coming from the west, affecting more the northwest coast of Tenerife.

Rain is still expected afternoon and overnight today, with sun and cloud forecast for tomorrow with winds still strong but with less force than yesterday or today.

Here's a link to the live webcam up at the Izaņa telescope site on the mountain:

http://demo.ss1n1.phys.au.dk/songcam_2.php

And here a short video from my garden yesterday afternoon:

http://youtu.be/oOzBzy1YCTg

Later: 11:30 am...

I've just put my little weather station back outside on my windowsill in the shade and it's already registering 25.4°C with humidity a little low at 51%.

The forecast is for fair weather, sunshine with a little cloud and the ultraviolet index is going up again to 8 tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.

(I don't know how they can figure that out ahead of time!) Anyway it means the sun's rays are getting stronger so be careful and use sun block when sunbathing or walking outdoors.

Better weather than yesterday:

Thursday, March 14, 2013....Puerto de la Cruz at 1:30 pm

Good afternoon!

Nice day today - sun with some cloud cover and temperature in the high 20s. My thermometer registers 27°C but there is a little breeze so it doesn't feel that hot.

Current view out my window:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-L5Mtdjb/0/M/P1170907-M.jpg

Humidity is also low at 39% so dry winds are coming from the east.

The forecast is for more sun and cloud over the next days, light rise in temperatures with a 40% chance of rain on Sunday, but it's probably too early to say that for sure.

Sunday and Monday's UV rating is expected to rise to 9, so watch out for sunburn as the rays keep getting stronger.

The official date for the start of spring is getting closer and I'm happy to see that a bare two foot long stick I planted a short while ago is starting to sprout.

It's a double poinsettia, from a piece of the stalk of my neighbour's pruning in February, just poked in the ground in my back garden and look what's happening:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-n5M69LK/0/M/IMG_1832-M.jpg

Temperature at 6:15 pm is 23.3°C and both my window weather station and the Aemet weather office predict overnight showers.

But tomorrow should again be sunny with west winds 20 - 25 kph.

Some morning cloud forecast for Monday with sun and high cloud in the afternoon.

UV rating is climbing up to 9 for Sunday and Monday so be careful and don't burn.

Hi all...

It's currently a cool Thursday here in Puerto de La Cruz and a bit earlier we saw a few drops of rain.

But we have calima on its way along with extreme HEAT over the next days, if we can believe the Aemet weather office forecast.

There's a yellow alert for heat tomorrow for the south, east and west of Tenerife as well as for Orotava and Villaflor with temperatures in the low 30s.

And there's an orange alert for the whole of Tenerife and the more eastern islands for calima and high temperatures up to 37*C on Saturday. It could also be windy.

More later as the weather forecast develops.

Saturday, April 20, 2013 ......Puerto de la Cruz

Good Morning!

Well it certainly isn't cold here today as we have calima over all the islands.

The northwest coast doesn't have it as much as the rest of Tenerife, as Aemet has put us in a yellow alert zone, with the rest of the island as an orange alert zone.

Here's the calima map for today:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-bxJrFMZ/0/M/April%2020%2C%202013%20Aemet-M.jpg

Current air temperature on my garden windowsill at 11:10 am stands at 24.1°C with humidity at 77%....an unusual reading for a calima day, where humidity goes down but I imagine that will go down shortly.
Perhaps it's just a result of the overnight dew on the garden here.

Here's the view over the Orotava Valley from the Bodegas Monje webcam in El Sauzal:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-m3bKRhj/0/L/April%2020%2C%202013%20Monje-L.jpg

And the calima nearly blocks out the view of Teide from my front garden. But this is certainly not the heaviest calima I've seen here.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-mNFCD8Z/0/L/P1180244-L.jpg

Tomorrow will be more or less the same here but a little cooler and less calima on the rest of the island, where the alert changes to yellow.

Some cloud after 6 pm in the north.

Sunny weather is predicted for all of next week.

And if you're in Puerto de la Cruz tomorrow (Sunday), do drop in to the celebrations of "Dia del Libro"..World Book Day at Alvaro's Tennis Club in La Paz (http://www.cdopuertodelacruz.com/CDO_puerto_de_la_cruz/CDO_club_de_tenis_puerto_de_la_cruz.html) (Club Deportivo y de Ocio) where there will be book stalls and many acitivities going on from 10:00 am, including a paella lunch.

The past month, or longer, (since mid-May, about) it's been very cloudy, often drizzle or even rain. When the sun comes out it's nice, but we're still basically waiting for the summer, asking where it is. :(
Chilly and breezy, usually staying at about 21 degrees in the daytime where we live, (outside El Sauzal), but Puerto usually have a couple of degrees warmer temperature.
The weird thing is that the prognosis keeps saying sunny and 25, or something like it, but I'm still waiting for that to come true.

Yes, we're quite open to the ocean, in fact having 180° ocean view, so we're always having a bit of a breeze here. We're only 150 meters from the cliff edge. But usually when it's calima and hot in other areas, we do get a bit of heat too.... I don't think it's been over 30 yet since we moved here, but close, on a couple of occasions.
What surprised me today was that we're having cooler than normal temperatures, not hotter. It hasn't been over 25 all day...
But very hazy; We can't see Puerto at all today.

Hi MM. Well yes, it's been hot, summer, calima weather up here in the north too, but cooler than the south I hear.

The back garden right now. The sprinkler has been put to good use this summer! I dread my water bill.

The Aemet forecast says more clouds with a little sun tomorrow, temperatures around the same and more sun for the weekend.

So there you have the conditions here. I'm sitting at my computer with a fan in the corner of the room, just enough breeze so I don't feel the humidity too much.

Hope you're all okay where you are. Till the next time...

And I guess there's no need to add, as you've probably noticed it, but we do have a heavy CALIMA at the moment and it will be here tomorrow as well.

Dust map here. (http://apalmet.es/ModeloCalima.php)

Calima notices from the Aemet weather office, show flashing triangles (http://www.calima.ws/) which warn of calima in the islands.

It's still very HUMID here this morning.

Thursday August 22 at 12 noon, temperature on my shady windowsill (even when there's no sun I still mention that) is 25.6°,

but the humidity is at 80%, where it's normally at 63% there.

There was a little rain again but it was so little that I think it was just that the calima got so heavy it fell down, leaving the patio

covered in brown dusty patches.

No visible sun, but it feels like it's up there somewhere above the cloud.

Hello again....It's September 24th, 2013.

Here we are in autumn and it's a beautiful hot day here in Puerto de la Cruz.

Air temperature on my outdoor windowsill is 27.6° at 12:36 pm and the humidity is a low 46%.

Here's the view from the Bodegas Monje webcam:

http://bodegasmonje.no-ip.biz:1240/record/current.jpg?0.314

According to the forecast we may get a few drops of that precious stuff called rain early tomorrow morning, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

You can see a disturbance swirling around to our northwest in this satellite picture:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Weather/Weather-Tenerife-North/i-V95hLvC/0/L/Satellite%20Sept%2024%20A-L.jpg

And the tail that is sweeping downward toward the islands, which could bring some rain, first to La Palma and possibly to Tenerife.

http://oiswww.eumetsat.org/IPPS/html/latestImages/EUMETSAT_MSG_RGB-12-12-9i-segment1.jpg

In the meantime, enjoy this wonderful sun, if you're lucky enough to be here on the island today!

So I added a line of asterisks and it appeared above as a double post.

A lot of us seem to be having problems hun - Toto told me instead of posting a reply use the go advanced button - try it that way it seems to work for me - if only I could remember to do it

A lovely post CB - we don't get them quite so informative on the UK Weather thread :D

After all that I forgot to press go advance but hopefully this should edit

Yes MM I always use the Go Advanced option when writing something longer with photos, but after looking at the preview I was unable to make corrections as the text window was blank (my text had disappeared) so I couldn't make corrections. Pressing the Preview button again gave me the message that my post was less than ten characters ( because it had disappeared). So finally I closed the whole page and rewrote it again and after the same "too short" message added the asteriks. Still came out with errors. Oh well... At least you can read it. :o

Well it's now Friday, October 25th and we had some rain early this morning....started here in Puerto de la Cruz around 5 am.

I heard it pattering outside my window and got up to retrieve a large chair cushion that I remembered leaving out on the patio, thinking it would be okay overnight.

As I write this at around 10:50 am, the outside temperature on my windowsill stands at 22.1°C and the humidity at 76% (normal at this spot is 63%).

Looks like we have more rain ahead starting Saturday evening and continuing through the weekend and into next week.

Hi CG....look forward to seeing you here again!

Weather that far ahead is a little difficult for the forecasters, but the Spanish weather office site says it could be sun & cloud with east winds. If the winds are right, that means some warm African air for Wednesday and Thursday. Weather here in the north has been great, with a few showers early some mornings but sunny afternoons. Today is brilliant.

Here's the view right now over the valley on the Bodegas Monje webcam:

Okay CG....
I 'm sure it's warmer here although it has rained during the morning.

The locals are wearing light jackets and cardigans. Rain has stopped and the air is mild. See you soon!

28-11-2013, 18:42
We had some showers during late morning and noon but the islands under the influence of calima which will continue tomorrow, so the air is warm.

At 5:30 pm my outdoor window temperature stands at 21.7°C and there is still some sunshine.

Sunset is expected at 6:08 pm. Here's a neat little sunrise/sunset chart (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=683) for you.

Perfect weather for an early evening stroll.

Scattered showers with sunshine are expected in the next days, but with warm winds from the east until next Monday, when they will be from the south up to and including Wednesday. So we should have balmy temperatures but with a few drops here and there which could even be during the night.

So says AEMET...the Spanish Meteorological Service.

We have calima and light winds from the east today and for the next days so we can expect shirtsleeve weather to continue.

We could have a few drops of rain overnight and some on Sunday and Monday, but that's not definite. Temps will still be mild.

If you want to see the animated movement of the SAT24 cloud imagery, here is the link. (http://www.sat24.com/en/ce)

And the Spanish Aemet weather office shows rain every day for the next week. :) I'm putting a happy face here just to be different. My garden needs it!

Current temperature on my windowsill at noon is 20.7°C with a higher humidity today of 72%.

Good news is that the UV rating these days is down to 3 (up to 11 and 12 in summer) so there is less chance of sunburn.

And although it's grey and overcast here, it wonderful weather for walking or going to the gym and not being too hot!

Have a lovely Sunday.

Well we have a yellow alert for wind tomorrow, Monday Dec. 9 and an orange alert for Tuesday, again for high winds.

The alert is for all of the western islands. Monday's highest gusts are expected to be at 70 kph and Tuesday's strongest gusts at 100 kph and mainly at middle to higher altitudes. You can never be sure with the weather office forecasts, but we do see that big white blob to our west on the satellite maps and it's better to be aware that wherever you are, you could have some wind. There will be high coastal waves as well.

Well so far this whole weather system has had no really violent effects that I can see from where I live in Pto de la Cruz. It was very quiet last night, with a few gusts of wind yesterday but nothing like I have seen here in the past. Thunder and lightening this morning but generally all very subdued.

At the moment 12:35 noon Wed. the sun is even coming through the clouds, although the sky is overcast with some dark clouds.

I have the usual mess of dead palm branches from the neighbour's trees and other assorted leaves including those of drago, enough that the cats have something to play with but nothing serious. However I think we may still get more rain as the sun comes and goes and the sky darkens every now and then.

Not raining now and the temperature is 21.6°C. Weather so mild that I had the doors open last evening to warm up the house!
As the weather maps have been showing, the winds have been coming from the south and southeast. Balmy African breezes.

I was out to lunch with friends and thought we were hearing a loud clattering fan in the room but it turned out it was the sound of rain on the plastic roof that accompanied our lunch. Then I saw out a small window streams of water pouring down outside. And even though my friend brought her car afterwards to the door of the guachinche where we were dining, the water was gushing down the street like a river and ran over the tops of our shoes. Haven't seen such a downpour here in Puerto de la Cruz for a long time. I bet Sta. Cruz will be flooding down at sea level as the heavy streams rush downhill to become torrents. Must go look at the news.

Hi again MM.

Yes I went to Alvaro's Tennis Club where they were having a Christmas bake sale and hot wine punch from 10 am until 2 pm.

So I had some tiramisu and coffee, bought a bag of homemade Christmas cookies, sat with a friend who was downstairs at the hairdresser for a while, then to Lidl looking for the mince tarts they advertised in their flyer which weren't there on the day they said they would be there (they said they hadn't arrived yet) so I went again today in search but there were still no mince tarts! Guess I'll have to make my own. Still have jars of mincemeat in the back of my cupboard.

And I did post today on the diet thread. I'm off it for the time being as I had too much going on with lunches and Christmas plans so may get back to it in January.

Lovely day here but it's quite windy. Rained heavily last night.
Was surprised when I saw the amount of water in my upturned garbage lid and some flower pots which were drowning!

And I'm glad to see that the panoramic Bodegas Monje webcam (http://bodegasmonje.no-ip.biz:1240/record/current.jpg?0.314) has finally returned to life.

Air temperature now here just before 12 noon is 20.2°C and the sun feels hot when sitting in it for a few minutes.

We should continue to have sunshine although the latest Aemet update say possible showers this afternoon/evening.
Sunny again until Wednesday when again we could have some sun and showers over Wed Thur Fri.

Happy February! Today is the first day and it's a bit changeable here in the north but the air is warm.
I sat outside on my back patio to have my toast and coffee this morning.

Temperature at 11:31 am is a mild 19°C and the sun is shining through a cloudy sky.

There's been heavy fog over the valley as can be seen in the webcam over El Sauzal:

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Other/Weather-II-TNF-North/i-JWX6g25/0/L/Feb%201%20El%20Sauzal-L.jpg

There's been a light misty rain as well.

http://canarybird.smugmug.com/Other/Weather-II-TNF-North/i-S897SSQ/1/L/P1210476-L.jpg

We've been having rain and wind from the tail end of that last storm to hit the UK. Yesterday we had some thunder in the afternoon along with rain and strong wind.

This morning we still have grey skies, a few drops of rain along with sudden bursts of sunshine that quickly disappeared.

No view of Teide yet as there's heavy cloud cover.

Here's what one of the webcams up at Izaņa looks like.......covered in snow! (http://www.aemet.izana.org/images/camaras/sur.jpg)

Still breezy and the temperature at 11:23 am is 15.3°C outside on my windowsill.

Here's my back garden and a look up at southwest sky:

Shade temperature at 1:20 pm is 21.6° (did you remember to move your clock forward last night?)

Showers with some sun and cloud forecast for Tuesday, with a yellow alert for wind and high coastal seas.

Beautiful morning this morning, Sky is clear, there is a light breeze, and it's warm. About +21C now at 10, and promise to be warmer later.
But the storm last night! Our garden is a complete mess, and the heavy pool cover even blew off the pool and was ripped to pieces.. the pool is full of leaves. :(

But Teide has a new snow cap:

Right Pooh, that was quite a wind storm and although there was a yellow alert we didn't expect such heavy wind. Sorry about your pool cover.
I was just out doing a walk around my garden and apart from one tree branch down, the rest of the mess is from neighbour's palm branches flung onto my lawn, a few tipped pots and many small leaves but nothing else.

But here down in Puerto my shade thermometer is registering 23.7°C at the moment (10:11 am).
Think I'll do some laundry and hang it out in this wonderful sunshine.

Overcast this morning in Puerto de la Cruz, and we had a slight misting of damp on the patio (I won't say it was rain) this morning but it's now dry. Temperature at 11:11 am is 22.5°C and the humidity is slightly over normal at 65%, with a little breeze.

The UV index is high now at 10 and it will increase tomorrow and over the weekend to 11 so be careful to use sunscreen and don't be fooled by any clouds as you can still burn. Tomorrow should be sunny and the following days sun with a little cloud.

Today we have a cloudy sky and the weather forecast is for dark clouds.

Air temperature outdoors is 22.5°C and humidity is higher than normal at 76% (normal at my place is 63%.)

One weather site also predicts rain over all Canary Islands, as does my little electronic weather gadget on my outside windowsill.

The government Aemet weather site doesn't forecast rain.

What both sites do agree on though is that we are having winds from the east, and will have them for the next week. That usually means warm winds and possible calima ahead although that's not in the predictions. Here are the forecasts and a view over the Orotava Valley from the Bodegas Monje webcam.

Have a lovely day!

MM what can I say except that it's so HOT that I don't even want to go outdoors.

Am sitting inside with the fan on me.

We have hot African winds from the east and it's really uncomfortable if one is not in a pool or the sea.

Shade temperature on my window outside is 28°.

We had a sudden. intense downpour here yesterday evening just after 8 pm when the sun was low. Gave a beautiful rainbow with the setting sun.

Sorry I didn't catch it with my camera but I was on Skype talking with my Canadian family and just saw it happening through the window. A little later it was over and patio drying up again.

This morning a cloudless blue sky and sunshine again. Shade temperature outside on my windowsill at 09:20 is 23.5°C.

I keep this bin lid upturned to be able to check it out mornings to see if anything fell during the night.

Not worth even mentioning. And it's sunny now with shade temperature at 25°. :(

Took these video clips of the crashing waves. The second part was taken from a beach restaurant so you also hear crashing of plates and conversations in the background. Full screen arrow is at bottom right of the screen. Sorry not able to embed here.

The garden is finally drenched and I hope it has gone down to a good level in the soil. We sure needed that.

This morning it has rained on and off with some breezes. Stopped at present and bits of sunshine coming through.

Forecast on my windowsill weather forecaster is for sun the rest of the day. However Aemet weather service says more rain. :D

And Aemet also says 79% chance of rain tomorrow too.

Shade temperature at 12:25 pm is 22.8°.

Have a look at this forecast. (http://www.accuweather.com/en/es/playa-de-las-americas/3022/daily-weather-forecast/3022)

You can always check it out on the 24 hour live webcam at Los Cristianos, not far from Las Americas.

Here's the link. (http://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/espana/canarias/santa-cruz-de-tenerife/playa-los-cristianos.html)
