Fred. Olsen the ferry company have postponed moving its terminal.
Fred. Olsen were due to move their main facility to the former Jet Foil station in Santa Cruz however the high cost of the operation has curtailed this taking place this year. The cost of the move was once estimated at one million euros.
Fred. Olsen last May obtained the permission of the Board of the Port of Santa Cruzto take over the old North Pier ferry terminal and the surrounding areas for 25 years. Fred. Olsen agreed to pay 385,000 euros to the Port Authority, so the deal was done.
A Port Authority source pointed out that they have not yet received official notification from Fred. Olsen and that if the company finally renounces the 13,000 square meters of land at the North Pier, they will have to explain their reasons for breaking the agreement and another company will have to be found.
