Can you travel to Tenerife from the USA using a Chinese passport?

My son's girlfriend is Chinese with a Chinese passport.
He wants to bring her to Tenerife for three months (from the states where they both live). Would the rules be the same as for entering any EU state? I never quite got the hang of the difference in status between Tenerife and mainland Spain.
Did think of going for a Chinese and asking there! But they might be offended if they have been here for years.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Has she applied to be a permanent resident of the US, or sought asylum? A lot may depend upon her status in the US and any restrictions that apply. As a Chinese citizen at the moment I am certain she needs a visa to visit the EU and more certainly Tenerife.
