A group of 7 chimps, one adult male, three females and three youngsters, now have a new home at Loro Parque after a rescue mission by the authorities. The new residents have been placed at Loro Parque by CITES, an International organisation looking after the welfare of endangered species.
The new family are settling in very well. During their transfer they were closely monitored by an experienced team of keepers and vets, which took care of the mammals extensively. Loro Parque would not disclose from where the gorgeous creatures had been rescued from.
Immediately they began to discover their environment and interact normally. As soon as possible, they will begin the integration process with the rest of the chimpanzees already homed in Loro Parque since the 1980s, when they were seized from the streets of Puerto de la Cruz.
To guarantee the quality of animal welfare, Loro Parque has made several changes in its facilities by adding new termite mounds, waterfalls and trunks.
Over the years Loro Parque has rescued a number of different animals including one shark, which was found in a London airport, in the suitcase of a passenger, a large group of gorilla males, for which Loro Parque recreated the necessary social structure in order to solve the problem of a surplus of gorilla males in European zoos. In 2008, Loro Parque recovered the seal Humphrey, who was found on the coast of Casablanca (Morocco) and after being recovered, was released in the waters of northern Spain. These are just some examples, along with different parrots, penguins, turtles and recently the orca Morgan, rescued almost dying at the coast of Holland, of animals that different authorities have decided to transfer to Loro Parque to ensure the best welfare for the animals concerned
