With all that is going on in Cyprus, the proposed government confiscation of 10% of savings accounts etc -

I would feel safer with my savings in a non Spanish bank in a non Euro currency in case the authorities here do the same.

Any idea as to which bank I could transfer to?

as they are now talking in Cyprus of taking 25% from accounts with over 100k I think a lot of people will be thinking the same.

I'm sure there's a bank in Nigeria that will contact you shortly!
In all seriousness , all banks have a level of protection in EU now- even some Uk banks are under pressure but are protected.
The problem with Cyprus is the amount of Black money it has attracted.

Banks outwith EU are more likely to be dodgy or unstable , even the Russians have moved money out of their own system !
Turkey, Iceland, India - any others?

protected only up to 100k and with what is happening at the moment I would not trust any bank for any amount.

I think its rather unfair if the new deal in Cyprus goes through. If its only the Bank of Cyprus that takes 20% of savings over 100,000 euros you are really unlucky if you bank there! When people choose a bank its often for convenience, low charges or high interest rates not whether the bank is solvent, normal people wouldnt know that! I know most 'normal' people wouldnt have 100,000 in a bank account but it does happen...a sale of a house, just retired etc etc. I dont know whether it is per account or all your accounts added together either so if you have investments for your retirement...

If the charges are going to be taken from the people in the 'bad' banks then I would suggest going to the safest banks. Here I would say its the Banca March, a good private bank but I daresay there are others.
