Hi,

In the UK I used to go to an NHS dermatologist every year or so to get a skin / mole check. He also used to remove one or two marks with liquid nitrogen.

I am living in Tenerife now and registered as an autonomo plus paying Social security. I don't mind paying if its easier to go to an English clinic for something like this. My Spanish is still a work in progress unless I need a beer.

Can anyone recommend someone / somewhere to go for this?

Cheers, Phil

Dr Farthmann at the Green Clinic. She's great, German, but speaks English really well!

As you are in the system are you yet registered with a social doctor?

If you are then have a word with him/her.

If not, then my advice is to do it as soon as possible as the benefits (not financial) can give you so much piece of mind.

Without being registered to a doctor every time you need something can be a pain (excuse the pun)

We learned the hard way.

Thanks. I will go get myself registered and fall back on the Green Clinic if I struggle. Its not super urgent or anything, just something I like to do every year as I spend quite a bit of time in the sun.

The reason I made my post was that although we have been social/ tax payers since 1994 and had (luckily) been a very fit family, only needing the Farmacia.

When my wife had a stroke 2 years ago we spent 2 days trying to get everything (paperwork) sorted purely because we were not registered to a social doctor.

It is soething a lot of people overlook here but is imperative.

Hope you haven¡t to wait as long for an appointment as my Husband has to wait to see an Eye Specialist, he has had an Eye infection for months and after three different lots of drops, cream to put in his eye and two lots of antibiotics the Doctor said for him to see a Specialist as they cannot clear it up, just got his appointment for April 2014.:duh:

I know it may be slow but if you're not on a doctor's list you don't exist.

Good. But as I said ealier, I know it's slow but slow is better than stop.

My point, in fact I'll start a new thread, is that a lot of social and tax payers don't know that they have to register with a doctor and assume that they are automatically in the system

I did actually know that I needed to do this, I had just put it down my list a bit :)

I just wonder if they are trying to save money and get you to go private because there is no way anybody can put up with an eye infection for 12 months,Obviously we will have to pay to see somebody.
Good Idea to start a Thread about it though.

In this case primrose might it not be best to pay private.

We will pay to see somebody, but why on earth should we, haven't we already paid all our working lives, and it really doesn't say much for the Spanish health system when they will leave somebody with an Eye Infection for 12 months.

Going back to Doctors on Monday and going to sort it out, it's just ridiculous to wait so long, and if she can't get hm an appointment asap because the infection has spread to the other eye now, then I will just go to the Emergency Clinic.

You need to insist you need an emergency appointment

Dra Farthmann at Hospiten is fantastic.I have been seeing her ( privately ) for some years now for treatment of skin cancer.I originally went to the dermatologist at Costa Adeje( now Qurion) but didnt like that specialist and did not feel comfortable or confident with that.
I would never go to Hospiten as an emergency or for any op as I have had very bad experiences there as have many friends.
However Quirion , I cannot rate the specialists ( Cardiology, Ofthamology and Traumatology ) highly enough , they are fantastic as well as thier emergency and in patient care, operations and intensive care.

dumb question, but what is DVK and where is USP?

And while we are at it, where is the Green Clinic? Links or addresses would be great.

And is the medical centre in Golf del Sur any good (Excellent clinic, http://www.excellentmedical.es/uk/centros.php)?

I don't mind paying to get this check done privately.
