Makes you wonder if they are struggling for cash !! getting cash 16 months in advance

Yep, fair comment
They are usually first released to be honest and prices rarely come down !
We struggle to wait for Easyjet and Ryanair ( from Edinburgh)
Not that Easy jet always cheaper - was checking Feb 2014 for a friend and they were £335 each from Edinburgh- Tenerife

Afr aid I have never been lucky to get a bargain from Jet2 always found them the most expensive. We have travelled with Ryanair for years now but funny enough our last three trips tpo Tenerife have been on packages with Thomsonyes hard to believe I know. To give you an example with Thomson 9th April to 23rd from Glasgow half board to Oro Negro with baggage and transfers we paid £970 and that was a family room with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The identical holiday with Ryanair and Travel Republic cost £1720!!!! Sorry I cant remember Jet 2 prices but it cost hundreds more too.

Yes it is hard to make the 'right' choice
I checked Thomson for the same friend and flight only was an eye watering £520 each for the 14 days flight only !!

Going back a bit now but Imiss Globespan. I was able to read when they were due to drop their price for the last time, booked it and went a few days later. You just never see real bargains now . We never book any more than 4 weeks in advance as we like to go when the weather is rubbish here looks as though there will be a few more this year again.

Yes really miss Globespan too, could 'read' them
When you don't have much flexibility with accommodation (of choice) or holiday rotas it's sometimes a gamble getting best bargain
October 2014 looks an 'ouch' over £750 for 2 flight only

Getting to be scary money, don't know yet what our ceiling is but must be getting close !!
It's not even about affording prices , feels like such a hike in costs
Portobello (near Edinburgh) here we come ??

I have not paid anywhere near £1100 for 2 flights for a holiday in Tenerife and never will I would rather stay at home its a RIP OFF, that would come to a total of around £2.5k for a week for the 2 of us its no that great in Tenerife:(

Going out 20th Dec till 3rd Jan 2014 with Jet2 is over £1200 for 2 flight only !! from Glasgow
Suspect more than the 'illegal renting' will keep Tenny quiet at New Year

Have you tried Iberia? Depending where you live in the UK, you will have to change once or twice, normally Madrid in my case, but for four flights flying out 12 Dec 2013 & returning 5th Jan 2014 £1100.

Ryanair used to leave Edinburgh 6.30am now afternoon as well
Evening returns not handy if need to be out hotel room / apartment 10am

Checked this thanks, from Edinburgh we would have London then Madrid stops
Not a viable option for us

it is not too nice arriving in at 1 am either, by the time you get your bags etc and get home it can be 3 am, :( i wonder why all jet2 flights are afternoon now?

Flight prices are creeping up for Tenerife, but it's happening on other routes too.

I priced up a flight for a friend from Manchester to Majorca the other day, came in at over £250 return with Jet2, years ago you could quite often find Majorca for around £100, bloomin oil speculators have a lot to answer for!!

Was looking at Tenerife prices for June to see if I could find a cheap getaway over a weekend, no such luck, don't fancy paying £200 for a long weekend!

Quite a lot of speculation going on about Jet 2s financial situation so be careful

Yes, had read bit about that, always use credit card so useful protection if worse should happen
We had 10 flights booked when Globespan went bust but CC came good

Or a visa debit card then you can get a visa chargeback as i did when globespan went bust.

However, very important to remember that if using a debit card, the general rule is that it covers up to £100 for a chargeback, PLUS if an airline has told you prior to departure that the flight would not be going ahead, the breach of contract that allows for chargeback would not apply.

This information is available from Which?

So the moral of the story is, try to use a credit card, or book ATOL protected flights so you know your money is safe.

Remember that flight only bookings with Jet2 are NOT ATOL protected, so you could be at risk.

Here is the actual rules for chargeback theres no £100 limit i got over £770 back when globespan went bust it is off course easier to get your money back if you used a credit card it takes longer with chargeback.

It's important to know this is part of Visa, Mastercard and Amex's internal rules and NOT a legal requirement (which Section 75 is).
Chargeback
Does it apply to all consumer rights? No, it's more for when goods don’t arrive or are faulty, rather than future issues

Is it free of time restrictions? Within 120 days of problem, and within 540 days of purchase
How much can be claimed? No limit (min £10 for Mastercard)
From Money Saving expert .com and my own experiance.

From which summary

Chargeback applies to all Visa, Maestro and American Express debit cards for goods costing less that £100
You also have rights under Section 75 for goods costing more than £100 if paid by credit card
Chargeback can apply if goods are damaged, not as described, or the merchant has ceased trading.
