http://www.islandconnections.eu/1000003/1000043/0/41632/daily-news-article.html They chose the wrong Island! I am needing this so badly, 1 meg on "broadband" in my house. I would just use 4g and forget the fixed connection if they can get their act together.

3G is plenty fast enough for Skype! I use it every day on my phone without a problem. Maybe you are just in an area of bad coverage?

According to this article (http://www.telecompaper.com/news/vodafone-spain-launches-4g-service-in-tenerife--999420) Vodafone has launched 4G on Tenerife a few weeks ago.
Does someone have more information, for instance regarding the coverage in the South?

It's an iPhone 5.

I think you still need to check:

14 Sep 2012 - The iPhone 5 is not compatible with 4G services on the 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands deployed across much of western Europe, including Spain, ..

Here is the article if you wish to look, but its not that clear

One of the problems with buying mobiles here is some are less powerful than, say in the UK.
My Note 3 is an example. Madame went away and bought it without telling me as I was dithering on whether to buy from Amazon or thru' eBay both of which were the more powerful units than the one sold by MediaMarkt.

Thanks x I had thought that as orange had provided my iPhone and they were the ones to send me the 4G SIM card that the two might be compatible !!!! Silly me!!

Have just spoken to orange and apparently 4G is available on Tenerife but not the entire island! It certainly isn't in alta vista where I live but I'll let you all know if I pick it up anywhere xxx
