We live in a duplex with a garage underneath which we have turned into a home office.

The house is standard Spanish build of concrete and rebars construction.

We would like to have a telephone in the garage/office space.

Can anyone tell me if we bought a cordless telephone set with two handsets and had the base station connected in the living room, would the second handset work in the garage?

I am not too technical on this issue, but I understand they work on radio waves.

Wireless headphones work okay from our hi-fi system which get the signal from the base station in the living room okay.

We cannot get a mobile phone signal in the garage.

We can just manage a weak Wi-Fi signal on a laptop if we carry it down while it is on-line but have no chance of getting on-line if we switch the laptop on from the garage.

Do not know if any of this is relevant but thought perhaps the forgoing information may help with my question.

to make it work 100% (or 99%) , get those wireless extension plugs that you plug into the electrical sockets

Thanks atlantico

We already have “net plugs” to carry the Broadband signal to a desktop computer in the garage. These look the same as the wireless extension plugs except they have an Ethernet socket in them instead of a phone socket.

These work okay so we are looking into your suggestion, but this will make for a complicated set-up of connections and equipment.

We are also looking into the cable option as the telephone connections come into the house via the garage from the communal garage area so would possibly be a cheaper option and should not be too difficult a job.

Not sure which route to take at the moment but thank you for your help.

remember too, that there will be lots of conduits already running between floors, carrying electric etc. Get a 'fishtail' (steel cable) and behind an electrical socket feed it down the plastic conduit and see where it comes out. there will be one joining upstairs with basement room, its just finding the right one, then tie a telephone cable to the end and pull it through

Thanks atlantico.

OH decided to go for the cable route and found the conduits going from an electrical box at the side of the Telefonica box in the hallway down to the garage as you advised.

He connected telephone cable wires to the box and managed to drop the cable quite easily down the conduit to the garage.

Just needed to fix a telephone socket on the end, stick it on the wall and we now have a phone installed.

Thanks again, easier and cheaper than anticipated!
