ok we as tourists love our food and good value for money, but if you are like us we never venture far from where we stay:(, so i am starting a thread on the best restaurants and bars that are within either bus or short inexpensive taxi ride from either los cris, las americas, san eugenio, porto colon and fanabe, so any suggestions would be greatly welcomed ;)could one of the mods change the title of my thread to reflect what it is actually about, i don't think my title reflects what i was trying to say:)

We like Paraisio in Valle San Lorenzo ,bus 416 stops almost at door
Original restuarant same name across road used to be packed with locals and great atmosphere along with good ,very reasonable priced meal, this one still very acceptable but locals not so numerous now as money tightens

Thoroughly recommend Las Goteras in Tejina de Guia..its closed Mondays.. and booking a table is advisable ...normally holiday closure is around the last 2 weeks in June 1st week in July ...460 bus from Americas will have you there within 20 mins or so ...maybe a taxi if a party of 4 went would be around €18-€20...possibly a bit far from what Marboro is asking...worth it though ....
if this is ok 922 85 70 56.......

Also try Cruz De Guanche in Valle, get off the bus at the first stop in Valle, walk back 20/ 30 metres and it is on you left. Not the cheapest, but you will never be disappointed!

By the way, the house wine is to die for :wine::wine:

Get a but to Adeje loads of them......have a few drinks in the local bars and pop into one of the chicken places they all seem good.
La Caleta has a good few restaurants to pick from and views are just great again there are also other bars to have a drink in which are nice.
Enjoy mate......never seen a lookie lookie man either lol in both places.

I changed the title of the thread, as you requested, and think it's a great idea.

Apart from the 'Slowboat Chinese' and 'Terrazza' I can't remember the last time i ate in 'town'.

I know it sounds strange to Brits who think of motorway services as **** , here, the quality of food and drink at the service stations is top notch. Far better than most bar food places in the resorts.

La Tasca de Mi Abuelo, Edifico San Marino, Los Cristianos.

It's best to get a taxi there as I couldn't find it if my life depended on it. My mate took us there and we spent 4 hours there. A couple of beers, 2 white and 2 red came to about €140. Not cheap but as we were there for that long it doesn't work out expensive when you consider how much alcohol we consumed!

It's about 3 minutes stagger from bar down by church left then right - the bar is a local Spanish Sports bar - the wine is decanted from a barrel and is very cheap - a bottle of dorada is about €1.20 .

Meson era Las Mozas

Another of our favorites, 'spanish' feel to the place, large carpark and good outside courtyard space and for those cooler evenings of course you can eat inside. A challenge to find but worth it when you do. Popular with the locals.

Ribs is the choice of many (although we have never had them !), they are large and need to be shared as they can be very big !

Friendly staff and most can speak some English - enough for you not to have a problem ordering your meal etc.

They do advertise in the local free papers so if you think you may have trouble finding the place perhaps take the advert with you and show it to the Valle locals and they will be sure to know where it is and give you directions.

Going through Valle from Camella or Buzanada, on the main road, when you pass bar Culantro on your left (the only bar with tables & chairs outside- but not on Sundays) take the next turn right. Follow that road down for about half a km, Moses is on the right. As tfs1 says very good! Enjoy!

Correct. Otherwise known as 'goldfinger' This would have been 98/99.

I'd also like to put forward chez bebert in la caleta. Franz Beckenbauer had signed the guest book the previous night and the usually snobby lady co owner completely lost her cool/snobbiness. She was telling everybody to have a llo at the book on their way out.

Anyhow, prix fixe menu, Complimentary soup dish to start then 4or 5 choices of starter and main plus a 2 or 3 deserts. Can't remember the price (been 10 years since our last visit not a place to take little ones) but was great value. Just a bummer with taxis from LC.

Is there a name dropping thread on here

Oh, a good "daytime" restaurant to eat at I always think, great value for money, nice salads and wraps and a few other daytime dishes, is Restaurante M, situated along the beach promenade in El Medano ... they open mornings up to about approx. 6pm ....

Bus takes YONKS though ... takes an hour from El Fraile, so add another 10 to 15 mins if you're coming from Cristianos .... georgous beach though, so you could make a day of it :)

if staying at Tenerife royal gardens , is the nearest place to catch the bus la or lc bus station and what sort of time is the last bus back, cheers for any help ribs to die for not missing out on this

Last bus back is around 9:45 pm, but don't be late. Plus it's about a 15 minute walk back up the hill to the bus stop!
Don't be mean - get a taxi, only around 10 - 12 euros to los Cris. :)

tbh the next 2 week break in october is going to be so different to the last 8 years it is untrue, with the info on here we can dine at so many great restaurants that not many tourists get to try, and we won't have to worry about looky looky men, pr's and bloody romanian pickpockets:wink2:

Is this a change of culinary exploits marbro for you October visit? Ill be over in November and trying at least one new restaurant myself.yes it is, we only ever go to places in resort, that's why i thought i would start this thread, there are so many places that do extraordinary food at very reasonable prices and as a tourist you never get to find out about, as was said in another post by slodge even some of the petrol stations sell food better than some of the pricey restaurants in resort, i also wanted to find out if some of these places were easy and cheap to get to like on a bus, and it turns out most of them are;)

It's a bit difficult for me to get around with 3 children under 10 but I'll definatley be greeting the bus to adeje for some Canarian garlic chicken. I may have been taken as a teenager but can't remember. I used to get taken to what was known as the chicken shack in the 80's and another called called San Martins ( I think) which served suckling pig. Again I'm not 100% but I think they could both have been in adeje.
I'll also be trying Thai Botanico down in Safari for the first time.

San Martins is still about, it's in Cabo Blanco (opposite the church) .... :)

Yes St Martin still in Cabo Blanco opposite the church
We have gone there many years and loved the local atmosphere and buzz ,was basic but excellent tasty food ,suckling pig, delicious cooked chicken ,papas al Horna (deliciious oven baked potatoes on bed of onion and peppers ) Ropas viejas (chickpea stew mix) At times there would be hundreds eating there, weddings, religious occasions, parties etc.
Unfortunately the recession or whatever has decimated this local eaterie ,last visit we made only 4 of us in the huge sitting area such a disappointment !!
Many half completed new houses also very apparent in the village

Is it next to The Swan ?

Because if you look at one of my links there's another Swan in the same district.

There doesn't appear to be a name outside the restaurant that you mention, but there is a bar called The Swan

great value it came to 15E a head last time we went ( 12 of us) and we had loads of meat...lamb, chicken, ribs, beef steak, piles of chips and salad and loads of wine from wood barrels.

if you like your meat well done make sure you ask for........ muy hecho y sin sangre :) they tend to serve the meat on the rare side.

Best to order plates to share the portions are generous. The ribs were massive.

We haven't been but someone we know went for the first time a while back and didn't like the chicken as it seemed old and tough ! - they gave it another go and have been back a number of times since. They say its good value.
