Hi All,

My husband has been offered a great job, with a contract in Puerto de la Cruz. It would be a huge move for us. My eldest son has almost completed Year R in the Uk and turns 5 in August. My youngest is 2 in August. I have been trawling all expat sites and forums for info on things for children to do. My husband visited the English School of Tenerife and was very impressed, even though its sadly not free!
I am concerned about what there is for my youngest to do as there does not seem to be any Mother and Toddler groups for us to go to, locally.
My husbands job has caused us to move a lot and now I have 2 kids and we have been settled for 3 years, I am really resistant to move but it would be a great move career wise. I am 40 and don't know if there are any other mums out there like me?!?
Any help and advice accepted. We might all be coming over next week and the employers would like our answer by next week, so I am feeling pressured in to making a decision! The employer is also offering basically furnished accommodation as part of the deal, so basically we would need to SELL everything before coming as we cannot afford storage and we rent in the UK!

Help x:spin:

Hi to be offered a,job and to definitely have a job are two different things dont you think........I am one of the more positive members on here and to me nothing sounds concrete.what sort of job has,he been offered and how did you manage to find this work.with kiddies involved you have to be careful. Thinking about it why not send the husband first to check it out.

If this is a sales connected job I would be very careful. Your two are small enough to move without problems and if you needed the English school in Puerto is great
I would guess there is probably a mother and baby group but try the English library

www.englishlibrary.mytenerife.eu/
Historic English Library located in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Canary Islands.

You could get season passes for Loro park. Seen a few English schools there and there is an ex pat community but might take a while to find them.

The Canadians are very family orientated and socialise with family, might take a while but is possible.

Although old myself I do know a few people here in the North with very young children who I could introduce you to.

We're not British, but live here in the north with a 4-year old son, who will start the Reception year in the British school this year. When it comes to the British school, you really need to check if your son gets a place; we had our son on a waiting list for over 2 years before he got in.
But there is another British School in El Sauzal, (St. Andrews) but only up to year 6. The other 3 British schools are now basically one, (British School of Tenerife), with different levels in 3 different locations.
Otherwise you have the Regular Spanish schools, of course, and a mix of mostly Spanish semi-private schools and also German schools.

Regarding the jobs; Make sure you really know what it is you're getting before committing to anything!

Hi, lucky you. I wish I had had the chance when my children were young. A great island to bring children up in. Everyone is very friendly, try and mix in with the local people, this is the best way to learn Spanish. Your children will be fluent within 6 months. And the climate is lovely. However do try and find long term rental for your essential possessions, just in case you don't like it, after 6 months you can always arrange for an auction house to collect them and sell them. You will need health insurance, once you leave the UK, you won't be eligible for NHS or any other UK benefits.

Do keep in touch, and let us know how you get on.
