Of course they do, the EHIC is there for BASIC cover. Loads of people think it is the same as full blown private medical insurance and travel insurance wrapped up in one neat plastic card, then are baffled that they get a bill from the hospital or clinic that has attended them. There simply is too little info about how and why everyone who can, should use this. Don't forget, if you are not registered with social security here or cant qualify as a pensioner then you cannot get the Tarjeta sanitaria (Spanish EHIC) to use outside Spain but WITHIN Europe - again a lot of people mistaken think this can be used Worldwide. AS the EHIC name says - it is for Europe only. MORE PUBLICITY from all European government is needed.
