It's finally died. 5 and a half years is not bad though.

Anyone recommend anywhere I can take my car for a new battery in the south, preferably near to Las Chafiras?

Funny that.............. mine also did today just after my work out at the top of Adeje, left phone at home so had a nice long walk in this heat not much fun lol .........bought one in Adeje just right of the Local Police station up the hill 200 yards on the left for 92€ which I have no idea if that's good or not. Might not help you bud but if someone does break down in Adeje nice to know there's one nearby.

Batteries are similar to shoe analogy you see on /frugal all the time.

You can go to Walmart and buy $50 cheapo battery that will last two years and then need replacing, or you can get a better battery for $100 - $120 that will last you a long time. In my Toyota, last time I got batteries was in 2008 and at the time purchased Autozone Duralast Gold. So, 9 years and over 100K miles later, the car still starts at the first crank. Of course, at the end of summers and winters, I clean the battery terminal and oil them to make sure they do not corrode.

I say invest in mid-upper ties batteries and take care of it. The cheapest battery might end up costing a lot more in the long run. You don't need the most expensive ones either. From my experience, I would go with Duralast, Autocraft, or Interstate batteries -- BTW, they are all made by the same company, Johnson Controls, with different label.
