Now that I have passed a certain age, I found that holiday insurance quotes for my wife and I were very high and some in excess of £550 for a two week holiday, today after searching through numerous companies and search engines, I found a company called "Age UK" which is part of Age Concern and was surprised to get a joint Multi Annual Trip quote of £169.00 which covers existing medical conditions including Thrombosis, Asthma and Blood Pressure, etc.

There are no difficult questions to answer, just very simple terms like ...
Have you been hospitalised over the last six months?
How many tablets to control blood pressure?

The company insurers are Ageas Life Insurers.

I assume this would only cover UK residents and not those Resident in Canaries?

Maybe worth contacting Ageas as they are a multi national company.

It is possible to have Insurance tied in with Your Current Bank Account, along with Mobile Phone

and Car Breakdown too.

This works for Me currently, You have to be careful of the Age Limit later on though.

Certainly worth exploring Ecky...!

P.S. Alot of declared conditions accepted too.

I currently go with LV= and pay around £200 for the both of us for the year, multi trip cover at 90 days per trip.
But I will take a look at Ageas Life Insurers

That link is over 2 years old essexeddie. I'm currently insured with Ageas (via Tesco) and they paid up no problem last year when I had my wallet nicked, even got more than I expected.

What ever you do DON'T insure with Jet2 Insurance who are Insure and Go. My husband was going to Tenerife in September but had to cancel as he had to have an unexpected operation. They have REFUSED to pay us for the flight and accommodation which was almost £600. We have now placed our complaint to the Financial Ombudsman so BEWARE of Jet2 and Insure and Go.

Have always found American Express annual insurance great value ,you don't need to have an AMEX card
Annual for us 2 is about £170 and they paid out pronto during the ash cloud delay

We are with LV ins not had a claim yet and I hope I don't but they cross all the boxes ie 90 odd days at a time which suits us.

I recently renewed mine, I looked at EHICPlus which advertises as cheap if you've medical conditions and you have a valid EHIC card. The quote came in far cheaper than the others and I was just about to buy it when I read *This insurance DOES NOT COVER YOU FOR TREATMENT IN A PRIVATE HOSPITAL". I eventually bought an Allianz policy via Holiday extras.

With LV we paid about £230 for both of us with conditions covered, I only have the usual High blood pressure and cholesterol but the wifes had a few problems as they all do. It always seems cheaper if your open a new policy every year instead of renewing.

I hate that term 'older people', LOL, probably cos I am one. But we people ought to take cae to get the right insurance, especially where you have pre-existing conditions. It isn't, in fact, difficult to arrange, though you have to move away from mainstream insurers. All you usually have to do is call a designated health specialist firm and answer questions about your conditions.

I can only say it is worth making the effort for the RIGHT health insurance that suits your needs.

I didn't find it a problem to fill in the forms online, just takes a while to find a company that covers all your requirements. i.e. Pre existing conditions and time away.
Each year it always creeps up on renewal. What I do, one year I am the main policy holder the following year my wife is the main policy holder. So each year we are treated as new customers  Simples!
Its all a game.

Reviving an old thread I know, but just want to say thanks for advice on here - just renewed our annual travel policy using LV and was quoted £285 instead of £560 for renewal with Saga! Well pleased.

This year we have gone even one better. We resurrected an old Nationwide Flex account and took out the travel insurance after a few adjustments to the account and paid just £50 for a yearly policy with a 71 day limit on each visit to Europe.
Then as we are off to the USA next year for a month we upgraded that again for just £17. That's was after we had a one USA trip quote from LV for £380.

This is the scourge of my life , the annual travel insurance. The past 2yrs have been with LV .This year we were lucky enough not to have to go through the mile length list of questions as we just had to tell them if any of our circumstances had changed from last time.It had only increased a few pounds and was £170 . It is due again in January and I am hoping things will be as easy this time.I have had to phone them twice about new conditions i.e.a foot operation and another hospital appointment , both of which were covered with no charge. We can only hope they will be so accommodating when the time comes for us to need them, this is when you find out how good they are.

I suggest anyone interested in Travel insurance reads the latest info on our famous banned site. Some of them do not allow you to use Private hospitals, i.e you could not be an inpatient at the green hospital. This is an extract from the policy of a well known UK insurer.

Emergency medical expenses:
this
policy
is NOT
a private medical insurance policy, and does not
provide cover for procedures that can be carried
out in
your
country of residence after repatriation
or for any medical expenses incurred in private
facilities if a medically suitable state facility is
available. It is therefore a condition of this
insurance
policy
that if
you
are travelling to a
European Union country
you
obtain a European
Health Insurance Card (EHIC

Highlight is mine. So basically you could be expected to travel hundreds of miles to find a state hospital.

It would probably be a help to know the name of the company, then we can avoid spending our money with them.:dontknow:

I understand there are a few of them, the extract I quoted is from Staysure. So always read the policy, not the sales blurb.

My wife evidently spoke to them about a major issue about what hospitals can be used, the answer given was that for any accident that a medical personnel says in their judgment needs emergency treatment, then any hospital can carry out the initial treatment and then after this, the insurers should be notified and that they would give further advice as to what hospital should then be further used.

I'm sure that there must be realms of small print that we don't read in depth.

Initial treatment is correct, No better than EHIC. if you then require to be hospitalised you will be moved up north. The Green hospital it seems are becoming very frustrated with some of these insurers. All you are really getting extra medically is repatriation. Cancel it and go elsewhere.

Is there something special about the Green Hospital, that we should only be treated there and not in the North of Tenerife???

Nothing wrong with the North hospital, apart from getting there, and unless you both drive it could be a visiting nightmare. And they don't have official interpreters, so unless you speak the lingo, you are in for a worrying time.
