Ladies

Thought I might start this new thread. Here is my first top tip to ladies of more mature years...

Give up lipstick altogether! Invest in a pot of vaseline and a good natural colour lip liner. Go on, try it. You will be pleasantly surprised. Well if you like the natural look that is.

And on lip liners.... anyone know of a good permanent one?

rosemary I actually find vaseline in general to be the best beauty aid ever. Since I started slathering it on my face at night, my skin has improved so much! I also use it as lipgloss, for chapped hands & feet, to take off waterproof mascara, to get the messy hair look, etc etc.

My tip is invest in some Ultra glow powder. This is a nice skin bronzer, dampen a shadow brush and use as an eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick, even nails colour, its the most natural colour powder I have known in all my 20 years as a makeup artist, I love it.

Yes I'm with you - been using it since my 20's every night around my eyes, my lips as I didn't want those "smoker's lips" as I used to be a full time smoker, and on my hands and I think it has done the world of good.

It's my top tip

A makeup artist! Oh wow, I should have met you a few months ago! I was doing some presenting stuff for TV, but had to do my own make-up. You would not believe how much money I spent (and youtube videos I watched) until I found something that works for me (and HD TV). :-)

As it turns out, I love, love, love Bobbi Brown for foundation, bronzer and pretty much all the other stuff. And I love Grimas loose powder.

It would have been so nice to be able to ask a pro!. :-)

Yep I also like Bobby Brown, you can get Ultra in loose powder too.
I have overplucked my eyebrows when the fashion leaders said you MUST or be square! but now I have found Christian eyebrow block powder in a palette and have never looked back, I get the perfect eyebrow for me every time, it stays on all day all night does not smudge, I went in the pool with it on and it never came off, (try not to touch when wet tho) lovin it!
If you want to buy this on line & get it sent to Tenerife I know where you can get it. But you must be able to get it in Tenerife somewhere.

As a Fella, I am aware that Vaseline is a very good moisturiser.

It must be good for Sunburnt Lips, and many other things too, best of all, It's Cheap......

tried some of these eyebrow stencils in the past and found they were nothing like the shape of my brows. must be me:wink2:

anyone tried Revitalash.? I found using this product made quite a difference to my eyelashes. looked really long and thick. two problems 1 its expensive and 2 you need to keep using it . when mine ran out lashes quickly went back to their original length .
I bought mine from a shopping channel here in the UK but Amazon and ebay also have it. going to get some more and hopefully people will look at my eyes and ignore the wrinkles:laugh:

Yep, I have used revitalash, I thought it was good too, I use Talika now, it took longer than it said but def made a difference, even my brows went darker and started to grow!
The stensils are never the perfect shape, but if you get the start of the brow done you can finish the rest with stencil with a good thin brush.

Since reading about the vaseline, I thought I will try it on my hands, nothing I have tried and I have spent a fortune on hand serums, creams etc I am delighted to say my hands are looking good, in fact quite a difference in 2 days. Now, all my beauty and specialist skin training is saying don't use it, but...it works! they are not as red not as wrinkly and much softer. If anyone else tries it let us know, I must tell you, if you wash hands in warm water first, just dab them dry leaving them a bit moist then put the vaseline on with moisture will get trapped, hence causing them to be soft, do the same on elbows, feet, knees if needed.

I always like my lips to be moist and use a lot of lipsyl type products. using it today I checked the make and discovered its Vaseline lip therapy.

Its in a red lipstick type tube. Can buy in in supermarkets here in the UK.

Rosemary you might like to try this............. stays on a bit longer than vaseline

I actually slap Vaseline on my face after having a bath. The beauty is that the molecules in vaseline are so big that they do not clog pores. Thus, not break-outs!
More importantly the vaseline traps in the moisture, as "who-r-ha" mentioned and forms a barrier between the skin and its environment. In effect, it protects the skin and allows it to do its work and heal itself.
And now for some first hand Canadian info: We Canucks slap it thickly onto our faces when outside in -40°C weather. It works like a hhermal jacket for the face. Frostbite IS an issue for us. ;-)
(File that under stuff you never really wanted to know :crylaughing: )

Hey thanks everyone! I have been off site for a while and didn't see these comments. Love them all. Please can someone tell me where I buy BobbiBrown, which I do love too? Does Boots do it? Can I buy it here on the island??

Top tip for a facial scrub! Use a little almond or coconut oil in the palm of your hand and soak it with Teaspoon of fine salt. Rub briskly over all nose and cheeks and avoid eyes of course. Rinse with warm water. brilliant! And cost is just the oil. You could use olive oil too but I don't like the smell. Coconut oil is another wonder. Buy it in health food shops in a hard block and warm it a little for use in microwave for a second. You can use it as a face conditioner or on your hair. It is reportedly brilliant for eradicating acne.

I have light skin and don't let sun near my face. Does Ultr Glow have a fair powder/ I love these mineral powders, it's all I use now. Just a light dusting. Little is more over 60!

Thank you ladies, some good tips on this thread.

Thought I'd just share a couple that work for me anyway - Johnsons baby oil as all over body lotion is probably quite well known but it really does work, but it has to be Johnsons, other shops' own brands just dont work as well.
Transfer it from the bottle into a proper pump hand dispenser to make it a lot easier to apply.

Also I've spent a lifetime trying to find face products that suit me and I have finally found ones I can really recommend.
First of all its L'Oreal Skin Perfection for removing all make up, its a cleanser and toner and is hypo allergenic and I just love it, then after using that Its Olay Regenerist serum followed by the Olay Regenerist moisturiser, both excellent products and my previously temperamental skin has finally settled.

The Salt probably acts as an Emollient.....?

I have always used a Face Cloth for this Purpose.

This is also good for bathing sore Eyes using warm Water but No Soap...

Yes I know the salt and oil trick sounds a bit radical but try it on your hands first. It actually leaves them as soft as the proverbial baby's bottom. I've been doing the facial scrub for years, never suffered and it is effective as I have open pores and I feel really clean when I've done this scrub. Once a week is fine.
