Hi,
relocating to Tenerife in new year, any information outlining advantages and disadvantages of residency would be greatly appreciated:wave:

Not quite sure what you understand by residency - if you stay more than 3 months you have to register at the police station for a Certificdo de Residencia which let's officialdom know you are resident on the Island , for fiscal residency and tax purposes you have to stay a fair bit longer and may affect your tax status and any bank account you may open .
If you rent or own a property you should register at the town hall - empadronamiento , these moves allow you to vote in local elections, get some discounted off Island travel and discounts on council courses in cultural centres .
I don't think you can become a Spanish citizen. goldenmaniac and others on here will advise you better!

Thanks for that, my main concern is medical requirements, if I stay for more than 6 months in any year am I still entitled to free medical care under the EHIC scheme?

I don't think so.

Even with EHIC you will not be able to register with a doctor. It only covers emergency treatment.
