FFRC - Friends of Feline Rescue Center in Defiance, Ohio, USA is an amazing no cage, no kill rescue center for abandoned, injured and homeless cats.

I watch the feeding of the cats most mornings with my own morning toast and coffee around 10 am.

I write this because, although this center has no bearing on the rescue centers in Tenerife, it is enjoyable to watch the cats on the 24 hour webcam (http://www.ustream.tv/ffrc). There is a chat line to the right of the screen where webcam watchers from all over the world can communicate with people in the center or between themselves.

The refuge is owned and run by Mrs. Jacci Moss, a retired nurse and animal lover who has built the center onto her farmhouse, and solely with the help of donations and volunteers has created a well run center consisting of several rooms, a small surgery, nursery or baby room, Kitty Kabana, a new extension where cats can sit on shelves and watch outdoor bird feeders, and a small guest room where prospective adopters from far away can spend a night or two in the center.

The most interesting time is the breakfast feeding hour which starts around 9:30 am Tenerife time, but is 04:30 am Ohio time.

Here is a screenshot of Jacci Moss beginning to prepare the food this morning. The little ones are so enthusiastic that they start to climb her legs.

At that time on weekdays, Sarah, a young 17 year old volunteer, comes in to start the day. She is one of 44 volunteers who help run the center.
She can be seen in the background of the screenshot.
The floor is vacuumed and washed constantly and all bedding and mats are washed daily.

Each cat has a name and a file and all are spayed, neutered and vaccinated. Adoptions occur regularly but those wishing to adopt must sign a contract and be vetted. If for any reason a person finds with time that he cannot keep the adopted cat, the center requests that it be returned to the center and not passed on to another person.

The webcam is seen by viewers worldwide and the near daily opening of "the boxes" is an event which occurs around 11:00 pm Tenerife time, when boxes of donated supplies from all over the world are opened in front of the camera. Food, blankets, toys, cleaning materials and endless cash donations, large and small pour in from Australia, Japan, Germany, USA and the rest of the world. Apart from that the center holds raffles, carnivals, afghan sales and games in order to raise funds.

There is also now a blog where the events and photos of the center are recorded by Jacci Moss. Here is the blog link. (http://friendsoffelines.blogspot.com.es/)

You may notice that some cats are wearing collars. They are the permanent residents who for some medical reason are kept in the center and are not for adoption. Some are tripods, cats with three legs cats who were found badly injured by cars or traps and had to have an amputation.
Some of them are CH cats, cats who suffer from cerebellar hypoplasia, a type of cerebal palsy which occurs when a pregnant mother cat has a virus which is passed on to her unborn kittens. There are presently 6 CH cats at the center. You will notice them walking with a wobble and sometimes falling over, but they say these cats don't know they are different, and they can live a happy life in a caring environment.

So if you are a cat lover, perhaps you will also enjoy watching this webcam and seeing what can be done when good people work together for a cause.

PS Even my cat Maui says this is his favourite webcam!

love it! I vaguely remember this place, or one very similar featured in a tv documentary a few years back - the work done by ALL rescues never gets the credit they deserve. I love the no cage style of working as im sure it helps the socialising aspect....having said that, the most I ever had at one point was 6 and that was crazy enough lol! thanks for sharing x

Deepdive.......oh my your cat looks identical to my new male cat from behind! Looks like he/she is also a ragdoll breed? Long silky outer fur, seal point brown ears, tail and a racoon type brown mask over the eyes.
Could you post another photo of him/her from the front? I'd love to see his face. Good photo by the way.
You tube also has a range of videos for your cat...... birds flying and fish swimming in tanks lol.
