Hi there,
I've just been reading in the Tenerife Sun that the Social Security contributions for those newly registering as autonomo is now 50€.
This is the link: http://newsinthesun.com/self-employment-incentives-no-help-for-existing-traders/
The article is pretty clear, although it didn't seem to explain if this was a temporary situation and if the 50€ (presumably per month) is for a limited period only.
Also, as it states that 'The autonomo may not be the administrator of a company or corporation (S.L. etc.)' I presume this means that you can set up a company, but not a limited company.
Any thoughts?

Thanks Slodgedad,
I can only think it is a short-term offer, maybe for a year. Otherwise there would be a complete imbalance as apparently it doesn't apply to those already paying Social Security.
But it would at least give those wanting to set up in business long enough to get going and hopefully build up the business enough to be able to pay the normal 250+€ Social Security. Personally though, with a small part time business in mind, there would never realistically be enough to pay approaching the 300€ per month which is the figure for a near to retirement person.
I'll look forward to anybody else's comments or info though

I see now that the Tenerife News in the Sun have run an article which clarifies it. Basically, the Social Security is increased in stages:

'.... the scheme will reduce social security contributions by 80% of the minimum quota in the first six months of activity, by 50% in the next six, and by 30% in the final six months.
The scheme is being advertised as a flat rate of 50 euros, but the truth is that since the minimum rate for an autonomo’s social security payment is 256.72 euros and that the reduction will not affect the temporary incapacity quota, the amount payable during the first six months of activity will be around 75 euros. During the six following months 146 euros, while finally will end up at about 170 euros for the remaining 6 months before going back to the normal rate.'
