I perfectly understand the rules about links, but actually censoring someones name by removing a complete post is going over the top.

The original argument was between the predecessor to this forum, and it's arch nemesis. Neither forum still exists, and the owner of this one is different, so it's ridiculous and should be irrelevant, but somehow it isn't.

It is basically the same forum. The link with the old was lost during the hacking debacle, from which we are still recovering.
A lot of the shortcuts and other features had to be disabled as that was where the weakness was. This has been explaibed on numerous occasions before.

I am not lining up to be anything. I have been a member for more years than I care to remember, and I don't throw my toys out of the pram easily. But a forum that doesn't listen to it's members, and is not prepared to compromise on a ridiculous stance that no one any longer understands, is maybe just maybe in danger of shooting itself in the foot.

Everybody knows JA doesn't want or need to be a forum member, but that's not the point. The point is that grown adults (which I think we all are?) don't like their thoughts and opinions being repressed. The question of why no links to her site are allowed hasnt been answered to the members' satisfaction. There's no getting away from that, because if it had, it wouldn't keep coming back to haunt you. I say "you" because you appear to be the front man, the one in the firing line, which is most definitely not fair. But as long as others hide behind you and let you take the flack, that will keep happening also.

It is up to the forum owner how they want to run it. It's also up to him/her how they address this issue. But one thing for sure, it's not being handled well. Basically, it's a "we're in charge, don't ask questions, we'll make it up as we go along if we want to" approach. The actual issue of JA is becoming secondary to the principle. It is censorship in its most basic form, and that does not engender good feeling, or a happy forum.

She was banned and there are obviously parts of the whole issue that members are not privvy to and nor will they be in the future, as it's not really any of their business. If certain older members are trying to provoke us into gossiping on the open forum then it's simply not going to happen. You should just be happy with the fact that we have our reasons, which are perfectly understandable, and that is that.

It is the forum's decision what is allowed or not on here, and the T&Cs state that moderator decisions are not discussed in public. That includes a member's banning, both past or present, or thread & post removal.

There are no open tickets from you in the Support section. All your tickets have been answered.

The forum rules are found in the Tenerife Forum Announcements section. They are stickied at the top of that section as they have always been. All new members are redirected to this thread before they are allowed to make even one post on the forum. Your suggestion has been noted and may be implemented in the future. Suggestions are just that, suggestions. All are discussed and if we agree with them, they are implemented when someone with technical skills can attend to it.

The auto filter is an automatic piece of software built into the vBulletin system that removes any 'string' of letters that is contained in the filter settings. A human, be it moderator, administrator or otherwise, does not have access to another member's private messages on this forum, so it really depends what your definition of private is. You are, of course, free to make up your own mind.

The point was though, that rather than promoting a banned member on open thread that you are fully aware the forum does not allow, you could always do the same 'avoid the filter' techniques via a PM and everyone would be happy.

A person being banned for any reason that goes against T&C's is fine and acceptable to most - it's the quoting and linking to other pages which is hard to get one's head around - especially when its usually informative and correct, and is helping a fellow forum member out.

When J was banned, and I wasn't around then, it was ZARION who ultimately banned her. when Zarion went 'missing' and was un-contactable, certain members / admin decided to set up the .org version instead of .com. For a while it was a totally different and new forum. then someone managed to get hold of Zarion and get access to the old forum to transfer all the old info over - but members still had to re-join. The question here is 'is this the same forum?' and in my eyes its 'similar' but not exactly the same. Yet the same 'banned members' list was transferred over, but NOT existing forum members memberships.

Not stirring anything here, as I really couldn't give a rats about any of this. But if member numbers start to decline and problematic threads appear it'd be no wonder, with the way the forums being managed right now. If it were up to me, I'd settle old vendettas by allowing the name and links to be posted, but keep J banned

OK admin your comments are taken onboard. But surely someone has the authority to allow a little flexibility, Especially after around 5 years, and if you can stand back one pace, and realise that blocking access to a site that has over this period become a main point of reference for hundreds of people seeking factual information on Tenerife is neither warranted or justified. Hide behind any general rules you like. But none of them were drafted to include a case like this. All I ask and many other members is not a rule change
just a little flexibility in applying them.
