Obviously everyone is different in the type of garden they like but are there any garden centres in southern Tenerife that have gardens already prepared for inspiration. If not where would be a good place to go to get an idea of what you can do. Weeds in Tenerife look better and more exotic than the plants that reside in my Central European garden :)

I do not see much grass anywhere, does that mean it just is too much maintenance and needs too much water, so people do not bother? Also not seen too much decking, tiles being the preferred outdoor floor surface?

If you have a nice garden would really appreciate it if you could upload some pics :)

You really need to assess Your options first.

Grass doent grow very well without a depth of soil and no large Buildings making lots of Shade.

Artificial Grass is good if the Ground is prepared before it's Laid.

Decking can look nice, but can also be intrusive..

A Patio with Slabs is nearly Maintenance free and blends better.

Do You want a Water feature./ That too needs considering if the Garden is Large enough.

The choice is Yours.... Wherever You may live.

Here are some pics of different gardens here in the north of Tenerife including my own.

Grass used here is generally the coarse creeping type which is grown from root plugs rather than seed.
Yes it needs water and lots of it in the summer, although it's hardier than the finer grass.

Wood here is susceptible to both woodworm and termites. I have them both chewing away at my house!

Tiles are traditionally used in warm climates for inner flooring as well as outer decks.

Here are some of my photos:

We have a front and back garden. I don't like Canarian gardens, all rock and stone. I think they're ugly! I wanted a pretty English type garden - grass.

We have nomow on the front garden http://www.nomow.es/english.htm

We are very pleased with this. It has been down nearly 3 years now. It looks good still, and maintenance is easy. I'm trying to upload pics, but telling me they're too big?

On the back garden, we have real grass. We tried several times with this with grass seed from the local garden centres. We couldn't get it to grow for love nor money. Eventually we seeded it with "Canada Green" Its a Canadian hardy grass seed, but you have to bring it over from the UK. This grows fine in the heat, but is still a nice fine grass, not like the thick Canarian grass you see. I would recommend sourcing some of this if you want to seed your own lawn. You can buy it on Amazon.

We have a watering system that comes on automatically twice a day for 15 mins. This seems to be ample.

It would be possible to create a similat Garden in the South, if determined enough,
using Plants and shrubs more suited to the Drier Atmosphere.

I was impressed by the Parque de las Americas, astride the Footpath from the "Bonanza"
doen to the Main Road. It has lots of those Trees with the Bright Orange Flower clusters,
and importantly. established Shrubs surrounding the Grass edges.

Unfortunately there seems little Space for a suitable Location.
for Anyone to create a Haven in the South as I know it..
