If one uses a Bono ticket for less than the full fare, does one still get the full discount?

Yes, as long as there is a small amount left on the card you will still only get charged the reduced fare for that particular journey when you pay the difference in cash. (If I have understood your question correctly lol)

As Red Devil says , you can use the residue on the Bono and top up the fare with cash and receive the discount .
