The capital is Santa Cruz, Puerto De la Cruz is another town further round the north side of the island. Both are absolutely well worth visiting. I do find however that Santa Cruz can be difficult to navigate by car but thats because I havnt been there enough times yet to find my way round, but its fairly easy to get to the centre. Just come off the motorway at the Avenida Maritima (signed posted from motorway) and follow that road all the way down till you see some underground carparks, which will have you very close to the centre of the city. Bear in mind they keep spanish hours, so shops will be closed between 1pm to 4 pm, but there wil be plenty of lovely bars and restaurants open to enjoy a lazy lunch.

When we go to Puerto De La Cruz, I book a hotel for the night, usually the Monopol which is very central. Then we spend a couple of hours in the afternoon at the Lago Martianez, swimming in the massive sea wáter pools (approx 5 euro each to get in), and a meal at our favourite restaurant Casa Pache. You can do it in a day easily enough as its about 1 hour 30 minutes from the south by car. Parking can be difficult but we now park on the harbour carpark which is large and free.

Both Locations are well worth a visit

The North is different to the South, so have a look.

Trips to Loro Parque is in the Puerto area, so two Birds with one stone perhaps...??

I was at Playa Jardin beach today in Puerto de la Cruz, near Punta Brava and a stone's throw from Loro Parque, where there is black sand, concrete walkways, benches, restaurants, foot showers and all conveniences. A nice place for strolling and watching the sea even if you don't feel like bathing.

if you have transport it would be sad to miss the experience, santa cruz personaly do not like it, but I am glad I visited the capital, if you don't go you will never know

Even if you have transport suggest you use the local bus to get to Santa Cruz, get the first one of the day and have a good look around plenty of shops and places to visit. Some great cafe bars and restaurants to eat in and sample the local wines. Loro Park well is worth a visit in Puerto de la Cruz, much cheaper to drive if you have transport, make sure you go via Tiede, otherwise use one of the tour operators.

The buses run every half hour fromthe bus station and take around 60-80 mins depending on traffic -111 stops along motorway , 110 is direct .
The 111 leaves on the hour and half hour , the 110 leaves at quarter to and quarter past the hour and is direct stopping only at Los Cristianos .
Make sure you buy a Bono Ticket to get the discounted fare , buy it in the bus station €15/25 .
It is €5.95 with Bono one way , €9 without !

Been twice to santacruz now and gaveno enthusiasm for it at all. Once was in a car the other a taxi to carnival. Dowe just visit the wrong bits.

We've spent most time down by the port.

On the day of the carnival the shops were shut so that didn't help.

Puerto was nicer and the mountains best of all.

Not sure where you went but the old Casco around Castillo has many varied shops ,cafes , historical sites ,walking up the back to the park, army museum ,taking the tram up to La Laguna (another lovely area) - visiting the market Nuestra Seńora de Africa, the science Museum
Lots of great street cafes watching life go by !

Van itt valaki aki Magyar?

Might be better starting a thread with the same question?

Lehet, hogy jobb, kezdve egy szál ugyanazt a kérdést?

Yes , you buy a prepaid Bono - €15/25 and as you use it the discounted fare is deducted from th €15/25 -
eg local fare is €1.45 - with Bono €1.15 , Santa Cruz €9 v €5.95 and if you return within 2 hrs on some lines the return is free - also allows transfers at Intercambios ( usually Bus Stations )

El Corte Ingles, the largest store on the island stays open all day in Santa Cruz, no siesta, as does a very large electrical store nearby.
