Stone Cairns on Playa Jardin, Pto. de la Cruz

I don't suppose there is any significance to these stone piles at the north end of Playa Jardin beach by the castillo, and I imagine they came about from someone starting a fad which caught on. At any rate, they make an interesting sight.
If anyone knows how they began please let us know. :)
