SAT JUNE 4TH - 5pm
UD LAS PALMAS vs CD TENERIFE

At last, game has just been confirmed. It will be live on TV Canaria.

This years famous Canarian derby will be a diluted affair with Tenerife already relegated and Las Palmas now safe. Make that a total humiliation p*** take by the yellow clad masses in Gran Canaria. Anyway what can we do?
Pm me anyone interested in going. I cannot release details on a public site if we do decide to go.

Still can't get my head round the Spanish league system

Everywhere else fixtures are made for the season, here no one has a clue when fixtures are.

Seems like after one match, you know who you are playing next, but when??

Every match seems to be negotiated, match by match

Tell us about it. The fixtures are drawn for the season in July ofcourse and they cannot change. The thing you do not know is the match day or time. The sort of unofficial rule is that matches need to be confirmed 10 days before(and this is usually the case). Quite a few times however this gets put back.
The reason is that the league want to show the most interesting matches of the weekend live on tv. Also at the end of the season all games that mean something need to be played at the same time.
Okay, our game against Las Palmas has had nothing riding on it for a few weeks but the FA only meet once to decide match days.

I think anyone who is going is very brave. I hope the players who play (11 on the injury list right now and on sent off last week) actually play as they should.

It will sure be a complicated trip. No bus company on Gran Canaria wants anything to do with the Tenerife fans. So not sure how it will all plan out.

Good Luck to C.D Tenerife and the Armada Sur today.
Stay safe.

Well they were only running minutes late when they passed Adeje this morning so I am sure they will get there safely.
With 8 youth players there will at least be a desire to win as for many of them this will be the most important game of their career so far. I hope they win. I had a friend from Gran Canaria on the phone last night who wan't gloating but being simpathetic which was almost worse.

Added after 7 Hours:

Penalty and goal for Las Palmas

Added after 1 28 minutes:

Final result 1-0

Probably not a penalty (just outside the area), but nevertheless a silly place to foul a player.

The young lads did well, but struggled in the latter stages of the game. Not surprising as we'd used up most of our subs by 20 minutes.

A real struggle in the month ahead now. It seems the contracted players could bankrupt the club if they insist on their full contract payments.

Imagine us playing in the Tercera league because of this. OMG!

Hell of a trip once again. Long day to say the least. Awoke at 7am and finally got home around 3.30am the next day. Everything went well although some of the anecdotes will live on in Armada Sur folklore for many a year.

Started to pick up people at 8am and thankfully managed to borrow Nikki & Tomas´s 9 seater van otherwise the trip would have been 100 times more difficult. We arrived in Santa Cruz in good time for the 10.30am fast ferry to Agaete (North coast of Gran Canaria). Tenerife fan numbers were obviously low due to already being relegated and the meaningless game but we had to show face. Around about 70 supporters were on this ferry and spirits were high although subdued in comparison with other derby day trips. The drink flowed and around 20 riot police accompanied us on the ferry. Overhead a police helicopter followed the ferry and the overkill was complete at arrival in Gran Canaria when another 50 police, Guardia Civil and riot vans awaited us.

I mean Al Quieda does not get this amount of attention!

We were taken to a sports marina in Las Palmas for our own protection as the game was still 4 hours away.

We managed to slip off though as we had other Armada sur to meet and eventually ended up in the central plaza and hit a bar.
1 hour before kick off we grabbed taxis and headed for the stadium. I did try to make sure that all taxis were to drop us off outside the main stand where the Tenerife fans were located. One taxi driver who probably did it on purpose dropped Graeme, Gordon and Derby Steve right amongst all the Las Palmas support and they were all wearing colours. They later told us it was a major "brown pants" moment as perhaps 2,000 Las Palmas fans converged onto them. They got abuse, laughed at and covered in beer, drink etc. but they kept as cool as possible and smiled walking on. If they had reacted they would have been battered. Infact as they got through the main yellow clad mob others were clapping them as to say "Well done for getting through that!"

In the stadium to be honest it was not quite the "inferness" that I expected. Nothing more than normal anyway and I suppose the fact that the game did not mean anything points wise was a factor. The mickey tacking was immense though.:hole:

In the Stadium the row of club flags were displayed but the CD Tenerife one was slightly lower, funny that!

Banners between the two sets of fans were unfurled. The Frente one read "AS YOUR TEAM IS SO MEDIOCRE - THE ONLY THING THAT GIVES YOU PLEASURE IS TENERIFE" referrring to the fact of our relegation making them happy instead of their own teams success´s.

The game itself was a typical end of season affair with only a touch of the derby spirit. The Tenerife team consisted of half the team being B team local youngsters and they all played well. The Las Palmas penalty for their winner was outside the box but the result did not matter yesterday in the slightest.

After the match we were held in the stadium for approx 1 hour then taken to the port to catch our ferry back at 10pm. We were all taken to the ferry terminal and then had to walk back to one lone bar on the quayside who probably had their best night in years as 60 thirsty fans walked in. It was slightly surreal as the riot police follwed everyone slowly in the middle of nowhere to make sure we behaved!

It was a long day and the ferry finally arrived back in Santa Cruz at 1am.
Fair play to everyone that made the trip.

the third team who will go to the primera division will have to play a play off, right?
Are Barcelona B allowed to this play offs?
Or will Valladollid on rank 7 be in the
play off, because Barca B can´t promote?

Barcelona B, Elche, Granada and Vigo are
the four teams.
How does this play off works?

As tatties&gravy said is right. Actually not sure if final is two legs or just one.

Regards the fall out from the derby; I was reading the Las Palmas forums and they are all commenting on the incident when Gordon, Steve & Graeme were covered in everything before the game. I would not be suprised if there is a video of it soon on Youtube!

THE "ARMADA 3" WALKED THROUGH THAT WITH TENERIFE SHIRTS ON AND SURVIVED (JUST)

Certainly annoys me that 2 b teams are in the segunda and that some first teams might fold. But then I only thought of this when CDT got relegated.

I've been having thoughts about this for a while (since we got trounced by Barca B). You could say it's a flaw in the system when a team can get experience for their up and coming players within the same system as their first team. There are just 22 league places between the Barca A & B teams.

It doesn't bother me at all. These teams need to play or where would you like these lads to practise and improve. The 2nd biggest gate we had was against Barcelona B.

The 4 teams who are in the play-off are Valladolid, Elche, Celta and Granada.
Games are:

Celta - Granada 1st 8/6 second 11/6
Valladolid - Elche 9/6 then 12/6

final game 15/6 and 19/6 winner goes up
If you were Elche this would hurt this year

Well thats a thought
The B teams have come and gone over the years. That these have survived shows what a strong youth programme they have, especially FCB

It'll be interesting to see how many of them will make the big time with FCB. Soriano has been amazing this year, but when you have David Villa and Lionel Messi to get past?

The Spanish Anti-violence committee have just published their fines and bans for the last weekend´s matches. The total fines at the Canarian derby added up to over 60.000€. Four Las Palmas supporters have each been fined 10.000€ and banned for 2 years for causing trouble outside the stadium before the match.

This guy who threatened the Tenerife fans with various gestures at half-time (I was meters away) was fined 3.500€ and banned for 6 months. It really was nothing much but he did keep on when it was obvious to everyone that he may get pounced on by the police.
