There was some filming in our complex with a 70 yrs + couple from Liverpool , it caused a bit of a problem with quite a few of the owners not wanting the cameras in the complex , they are now sh****ng themselves as to how the programme is going to look on TV!
The reviews look horrendous!

We've only been to Portugal twice, stayed at a place on the outskirts of Albufeira, what we didn't realise when we booked it was that it was close to "the strip". The second morning we were there we were woken up by a young bloke trying to force his way into our apartment. He was completely off his head. When I shouted to him to F off he proceeded to p*ss all over our door and veranda.

A better class of tourist? I think not.

Nothing like that has ever happened to us in the 20 odd years we've been going to Tenerife.

Ah, the famous Montechorro Strip above Sao Joao ?Was there many years ago as it was building up , must be heaving now !

Costa del Sol . Marbella area used to be all shell suits and pony tails with most of UK crooks hanging about !we stayed at the costa del sol princess a few years ago now in estapona, we went in november, and the only time we saw the pool was when we walked past it to go to the restaurant, it hammered it down every day:laugh:, the road outside was reported to be the most dangerous in europe and there was a death every day, in fact someone died outside the hotel while we were there:(, i nearly had a fight with the chef that was dishing the food out because he told my wife she couldn't have mashed potatoes because it was for the kids:mad:, and we thought we had met a lovely couple from wales until i discovered why he kept on calling my wife sian instead of san, he said it was the name of his dog:mad: i nearly dragged him over the table, his wife (who was lovely) explained to us that he was a welsh nationalist and hated the english , i said "then why did he go out of his way to make friends with us", and she said he always does it on holiday just to wind us up:laugh: she said he had never forgiven US for stopping the teaching of the welsh language in their schools, anyway it was a bad holiday and i vowed never to go back:laugh:

It was never going to be any other way, the Title of the programme and the pre-advertising for participants suggested that .
The Scouse couple were lucky as they came out better than I thought the programme would try and depict them and the others were just what Turismo doesn't want as an image (but actually exists ).

Absolutely disgusted with the irresponsible TV company who encouraged this. How people spend their money on holiday is their business as is how they behave. But this beautiful island is our business; it has suffered badly in the recession and has tried so hard to get back to some stability and then this second lot of bad publicity comes unnecessarily to the fore. What about this stunning island and the many activities in which so many pensioners participate such as walking, hangliding, sailing, cycling, fishing, running businesses, photography, painting etc. etc.? I have already joined in the debate on Facebook and along with many posted on the Channel 5 FB site. The programme showed a minority who were not at their best and I make no apologies for feeling very sad and apologetic towards this lovely island which has so much to offer. agree wholeheartedly, such a shame that Tenerife is portrayed in this way.Hope people who've never visited realise the OAPs featured are in the minority. I visit frequently and have met people from all walks of life enjoying Canarian culture, beautiful golf courses, fishing villages with wonderful tapas and views to match. Nothing against the people featured in the programme as it's their life and they're not harming anyone, but it's a great shame to viewers of the programme who may think the holiday described is typical of the Tenerife way of life because we know it's not.

I think the viewers of the programme will understand that Tenerife has a lot to offer and that the programme only highlighted the activities of a minority. I also like the way that the posters on this topic have not judged those involved. The main area of concern appears to be with Channel 5 and I suppose that viewing numbers are there priority.

I think the programme could have shown the dodgy Asian shopkeepers & their tactics, lucky lucky men continuously hassling you, don't mind a couple, hair braiders that grab your arm & have started weaving before you realise, beggers, pick pockets & taxi drivers that rip you off. This would definitely shown another side of Tenerife - a lot worse than shown.

I saw this programme I just didn't recognise that behaviour as being a 'general' thing with OAP's maybe the people they filmed were the worst offenders? I remember seeing the advert for people over 60 yrs of age who go to Tenerife to 'enjoy' themselves and maybe have a good drink and dance (which you can do in the UK) to come forward for filming.. I actually spoke to the woman who was organising this programme, at the time of speaking to her I believe it was not intending to go for the angle they did, but I guess they wanted to make a story and shock people (which they did) so this is what they went with. What a shame, why they gave the drunken idiot who worked at 'Lazy Daze' so much air time is ridiculous! What I see, is the over 60's having fun, a drink, a sing song, a walk along the beach, touring around the island, joining local dance & chat groups, getting their nails and hair done at local hairdressers, making friends, putting money into the local economy, oh and having very early swim for exercise in the cold water of the hotel/apt pool!!

A serious debate on Facebook is nearly as farcical as the programme, who in their right mind would think that a programme of that sort depicts the island as it really is, the only one who would give it credence are the ones who think that Veronica's is typical of the whole of Tenerife.???

A serious debate on Facebook? Somebody saying Tenerife is a Five Star destination, are they having a laugh. For goodness sake it was on Channel 5 how many of the millions of people who come to Tenerife or are thinking of coming to Tenerife actually watched it,their viewing figures are so low as to be ridiculous. Why on earth are people taking it so seriously they weren't actors they were real people and no it's not my idea of a good night but what harm were they doing and good for them if they were enjoying themselves they probably spent more in a night than some people spend in a month. There are hundreds of PR's like Pete and if anybody want's to go and watch one hit wonder Leapy Lee that's their right. When will people admit that things like this actually happen here, would they prefer to watch a programe about OAP's dying of cold and neglect in the UK.

As long as the majority of the people who viewed the programme and realise that it's not a true representation of the whole of Tenerife, or the folk who visit there, then that's great. I believe in live and let live!

Put most people in front of a movie camera and they become "actors" and that's what the producers of the programme have achieved.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I did not enjoy the content of the programme or why I would prefer to watch old people dying of hyperthermia.???

Should have put would they prefer and have edited it but if you think they turned into actors then you are well off the mark. What I find quite sad is that people think that a one off program on Chanel 5 could bring Tenerife to it's knees.

Quite a few of our winter "Swallows" occasionally toddle down hill to the Hop & Grapes , most in their late 60's and beyond - they have a long 4-6 months break in Tenerife and have been doing so for over 20years , including Marie & Gordon, we haven't lost one yet!
They also frequent other bars and restaurants none of which would allow filming and even on our complex it was strictly controlled .
The other bars in episode I recognised , including the scuffle at Veronicas which is commonplace with Morrocans and tourists who have been dipped (several tourists from our locals have been done there , despite being warned!)
Unfortunately the incidents in the program did happen and do not print a great picture for Turismo , people behaving quietly do not make TV attractive and that's life!

Please explain about twitter Warbs!!;)

It's quite simple really, I think this brief explanation on the effect of "Twittering" should make it clear!:tiphat:

Twitterbots are capable of influencing public opinion about culture, products and political agendas by automatically generating mass amounts of tweets through imitating human communication.[The New York Times states, "They have sleep-wake cycles so their fakery is more convincing, making them less prone to repetitive patterns that flag them as mere programs".The tweets generated vary anywhere from a simple automated response to content creation and information sharing, all of which depends on the intention of the person purchasing or creating the bot. The social implications these Twitterbots potentially have on human perception are sizeable according to a study published by the ScienceDirect Journal. Looking at the Computers as Social Actors (CASA) paradigm, the journal notes, “people exhibit remarkable social reactions to computers and other media, treating them as if they were real people or real places”. The study concluded that Twitterbots were viewed as credible and competent in communication and interaction making them suitable for transmitting information in the social media sphere.[296] While the technological advances have enabled the ability of successful Human-Computer Interaction, the implications are questioned due to the appearance of both benign and malicious bots in the Twitter realm. Benign Twitterbots may generate creative content and relevant product updates whereas malicious bots can make unpopular people seem popular, push irrelevant products on users and spread misinformation, spam and/or slander.

One who sees everything as nothing but the Self, and the Self in everything one sees, such a seer withdraws from nothing. For the enlightened, all that exists is nothing but the Self, so how could any suffering or delusion continue for those who know this oneness?

Typical channel 5 rubbish. Showed nothing about Tenerife as an island whatsover. It might as well have been called behaving badly in Blackpool.

as for showing the veronicas strip how staged and how tacky. They didnt show the nice upmarket area round by the fountains did they and whete the outside crazy golf is. This prog did Tenerife no favours I am afraid. Its a beautiful island and the programmed just ruined it.

it also gave out the message you need to be drunk to enjoy yourself you dont.

as for showing the veronicas strip how staged and how tacky. They didnt show the nice upmarket area round by the fountains did they and whete the outside crazy golf is. This prog did Tenerife no favours I am afraid. Its a beautiful island and the programmed just ruined it.

it also gave out the message you need to be drunk to enjoy yourself you dont.

But the programme was called OAP's Behaving Badly not the Upmarket Delights of Tenerife if it had been would you have expected to see a few drunken OAP's staggering about in that programme???

To my mind it was about half a dozen drunken old gits, a so called **** head of a PR, a washed out never was a singer and his tart prancing about for the benefit of a camera.....I would have fitted in well!:cheeky:

It was a nothing programme that depicted nothing apart from the above...a fuss about nothing.???

I forgot to mention, the PR in the dark suit, now works at the Miami Restaurant in Los Christianos....he's a decent bloke.

I think that if the producers gave ME a couple of hundred quid, I would also of got drunk for their cameras, but I'm sure that if martincrabb99 or marbro8 had known that, then they would have been there before me.

No doubt about that especially when you mention being paid. Seriously it was as you say a bit of nothing, I have seen a lot worse than that mild behaviour on the streets of the UK, and that's what it was, a relatively mild representation of a few and should we really judge them?

I watched the programme on Catchup. It didn't come as any shock given the title and if people want to live like that it's up to them. I won't be like that when I finally make the move but I won't be a wallflower either. There is far too much to do on Tenerife other than just sitting round the pool or on the beach getting drunk every day. Fair enough for the first few weeks we would be treating it like a holiday but money doesn't last forever even if I wished to adopt that lifestyle.

As for Leapy Lee being a washed out never was, how many people on here had a hit record in the 60s. Fair play to the guy, he looks like he's having fun even if he gets a bit knackered these days. I saw him on a programme about Mallorca around 15 years ago. He was doing what he does now, except he's quite a bit older.

many times Warbs.......its great fun:laugh:sometimes while i am working in customers homes and they have the show on, they come out with statements like "why would you go on a show and tell the world about your problems"??? and i think der??? it could have something to do with the fact that if they wasn't on there earning a few grand and getting peeeed at their expense then they would be sitting at home doing exactly what they do on the show earning nothing:)

I suppose it brings in reasonable viewing numbers that makes advertisers use Channel 5, also if you add Tenerife in a programme title it interests a wide viewer age range....clever people these programme planners and producers.

And they've got us either watching it or talking about it!

Self-serving I think. By talking about it and revealing concerns for the island, at least there are a few of us who don't think it's right JUST to show the worst excesses of the place we love . Perhaps we'd better be silent and let the boozing etc. aspects dominate the island's reputation for there seems to be no redress.

That's exactly what television/media companies are "self serving", if it makes good viewing numbers for them and the financial income that they receive from this, they are happy. In turn if you could get another TV company to make a programme about any injustice that you feel about the programme and they thought it would bring in more income for them, then they would be happy....it's a vicious circle of companies not caring and self interest, including the bar owner and Leapy Lee who were featured in the programme.

You are right to express your point of view and it is a good question to pose to Channel 5.
My point of view is that it was rather a lightweight programme and it certainly did not give a balanced view of Tenerife. I enjoy the beautiful scenery, the activities and a whole lot more.
The fact remains that some people enjoy socialising is also

A part of life on Tenerife. Channel 5 produce a number of these type of programmes which attract a particular viewing audience and the content does not always reflect the true facts. On that I agree.

If the TV companies make a programme about Fairlie, then the local pensioners evening entertainment would make OAP's in Tenerife to be saints.

I don't post often but come to Tenerife almost every year with my wife.

Watched the Ch5 program but to be honest I can't see that it would put many off coming to the island. The last two years we have brought my parents who are in their 70's and they are coming with us again next year.
When I talk to work colleagues and friends the reason they don't like Tenerife's main resorts is the constant PR people, lucky lucky sellers and the people who now think it's OK to grab you. Makes it difficult to go out for a relaxing stroll.
Last year was the first time I saw any actual crime but I witnessed two pick pockets, one bag snatch on foot and one drive by bag snatch.

Tenerife's reputation isn't made by one TV show it's made by the comments people give to others when they return from holiday. The law and enforcement needs tightening to clean up the resorts.

Cheers
Lee
