I know what it's like I supported the Villa deep into the third division and up again. It's funny when they were winning in that division there were crowds of 35,000!

Until I was 16 I lived on the Warkwickshire/Worcestershire border, you either supported Villa or Wolves, a family friend took me to Villa Park when I was 10 or 11 ish (1954). I could get on a coach at the local post office to Villa for half a crown return and it used to cost me a shilling to stand behind the goal. What a buzz for a young lad.

My top six in alphabetical order, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd

I started supporting the Villa in the early sixties, I am 62 this year and I was a member of the Nuneaton Branch of the Supporters club. I remember the smell of cigarettes on the coach and hot dogs and onions at the ground. Do you remember A central midfielder called excuse the spelling Sleevenhouk or something like that, I voted him player of the year in one season.

we have lived in villa's shadow for many years, we used to play in the same old third division yonks ago, and even though we have lost to them countless times in friendly's they have never beaten us in a competitive match:wink:, 2 of my nephews now follow them home and away, even though they regularly came to walsall matches when they were youngsters, with me paying for their season tickets, but as soon as their dad started going to watch villa after a lapse of 20 years they defected over night which really ppppd me off:mad:, they now take the mick out of walsall after all the money we spent on taking them:mad:, so you will forgive my resentment towards them:eyebrows::wink:

I went three times last season and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the support shown by all. I travelled on the coach organised by Armada Sur and they provide the coach, ticket and I was given a programme and supporters club news sheet.
They stop en route for a cherry B and have a local bar in Sant Cruz where you can have some paella or sandwiches and a few more beers prior to the match, I went with friends and on my own and it was great. The whole day is superb and very friendly. They support their team to the final whistle.there will be plenty of supporters on this forum who will have much more information, it's Great.

i find it hard to hate any west mids teams tbh, i ran with the wolves subway army in the 80's because most of my mates at school were wolves fans, and when wolves were playing at home walsall played away, so we used to alternate between home games, walsall at home they came with me, wolves at home i went with them:wink:, we got into a lot of trouble with most of my mates spending time in prison, but i was lucky and managed to escape arrest on many occasions (but not every time):ashamed:, enough times to realise that it was stupid:ashamed:, and now i would rather have a few beers with opposing fans before the game with my wife and have a bit of banter:wink:i had to choose between wolves and walsall when i left school and because my dad and uncles were saddlers fans i chose walsall and i have never looked back:c2:

Funnily enough as I went into my teenage years I watched the Villa at home and went to watch Leicester when Villa were away. We lived in Nuneaton then, the Leicester v Notts Forest games were always exciting in more ways than one. Like you I tend to follow all of the Midland teams in the sports news and Walsall have produced some good young players over the years. In my professional capacity I used to be involved at Coventry City and now they haven't even got a ground! So we have a city with the Ricoh arena which they can't play in...stupid. We were all young once and then we grow up like maturing Oak trees[emoji1][emoji6][emoji460]️[emoji460]️[emoji481][emoji106]

Lost track with them after 1960, went in the army as a junior entrant straight from school (Alcester) so except for visiting relatives I never returned to living in the midlands. Always look for their results etc though even now.

My favourite player back in the 50's was Stan Lynn, No.2,right back, built like a brick s**thouse and as hard as nails. In those days full backs never crossed the half way line, but sometimes Stan would, and scored quite a few goals.

I know Alcester reasonably well and when we had a lodge at Winchcombe we used to travel past the town frequently.

I know, I think he has done a great job for the Villa to keep them up but Randy Learner will want to sell the club with a team showing potential for the future and not involved in year after year relegation battles. He deserves better support from the owner.

It must be difficult to motivate yourself as a manager with all the uncertainty surrounding the club but no excuses from me. As a life long supporter I am disappointed with the last three years but you have to sometimes grit your teeth and still get behind your club in the bad times. My teeth are worn out!

Villa at the mo are doing well ..As for Everton we are doing not so well..!
We are getting near to the halfway stage which will see (for me ) the teams that nobody expected to be where they are, maybe start to falter ...
Anyway whatever, with 3 more weekends before 2015 and games to be played New Years Day making it at least 5 more games till then ..its still a long way to go yet ..

Quite honestly the Villa supporters are the last to know what is actually occurring. My personal view is that Learner and his financial advisors should invest in the club to sell as a viable profit making investment to a new owner who is genuinely interested in making the club successful. As regards the Manager, I think with the resources he has had to work with he has done a remarkable job in the time he has been there. I'm not a great fan of blaming the Coach for the performance of the team and I would like to see how he would perform with the input of some key players.

Villa have been playing a dangerous game keep flirting with relegation for some time now , a chairman lacking commitment will be the death of any club especially one that's not allowed to have a manager run the team , Lamberk is just a yes man Learner is in full control of that team ! Thats why Martin O'Neill gave the hot seat up he wanted to sign players and was told there were no funds , next thing you know Darren Bent is there for millions ! , I think The Villa will struggle to win a league game for the rest of this season , Sherwood won't do any good they need more bite not another yes man , looks like championship next season

We've had the rough times at Blackburn but can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope Villa can do the same. We had the Walker family trust looking after club and they totally lost interest, sold to Venky (not their wisest move) but 3 years down the line the club is running smoothly.

At this moment I fully agree with you but I truly hope that we can turn things around. The standard of football in the Championship is much higher than some perceive but for the viability of the club and the future we need a strong manager with a bit of character. congrats to villa for reaching the semi's of the FA cup today, i went to the game, poor first half, but livened up second half, sherwood is already a legend in the villa fans eyes simply for beating the baggies twice in a week:lol:

Pity that a minority of Villa fans let the club down by invading the pitch, the Ref could have abandoned the match at that point, he'd already made two diabolical sending off decisions. Good result, but Sherwood didn't look too pleased as he went down the tunnel.

I think West Brom dominated the first 25 minutes and after half time Villa decided to have a go and the result is as it should be and it was a well deserved win for the Villa. I agree with Ted that a small minority of Villa fans let the club down and the results of their moronic behaviour could have led to an abandoned game. So a semi final place and let's hope this boosts the confidence of the team for the relegation battle. My celebration was only semi-naked and the local police were left stunned by the sight of me laughing manically wearing a pair of claret and blue budgie smugglers and covered in Calima dust!! Even so I am very disappointed as I did not read my Private messages until this morning and I missed a golden opportunity to have a drink with Lucky last night at his secret bar in Secretsville!!!

SOLOUTION ........Early kick off in a local derby to minimise alcohol consumption and the ensuing moronic behaviour.
I agree with your comments about the Police unfortunately some of them also require firm management and it may tell us something about the current lack of public order training in these specific situations. Poor leadership in the management of crowd control and potential violent situations is sometimes glaringly obvious.

Morning Ted, I think a combination of things at the club contributed to how the Villa played under Lambert and Marlboro8 has listed one of them. I certainly cannot blame him solely for their performance previously as I believe the whole club was in the doldrums because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the club under Learner who I think has now woken up to the fact that he may have a successful club in the waiting to either sell or develop further.

Morning Isle and I am pleased to note that your team have picked up form. Generally 33 points would mean relegation, 37 points would mean a chance of surviving and 43 points would guarantee survival in the premiership so Aston Villa could still stay in the Premiership if they play to their full potential. The bottom three get relegated to the lower league.

It,s generally accepted that 40 points is the safety mark, though 38 has been known
in the past.
2002_2003 season West Ham finished 18th with 42 points relegated....
Even more surprising
1995_1996..Finished 18th with 38 points relegated..????
Manchester City!!

A win and 3 points would have been really good but I am happy with the point and Benteke is back in goal scoring form as he has been recovering from an Achilles' tendon injury so his return to form has come at the right time. We are also in the semi final of the English FA cup. Aston Villa up to sixteenth.!
