If they take the choice of AI away then more than likely the people who prefer that option will go elsewhere, unless AI is banned everywhere there is no solution, there are enough Countries that will will give them that choice. Better to have them them come AI than not at all after all they are still eating and drinking and all supplied by company's in the Canaries, take that away and and right down the chain from the Hotels to the Luggage Handlers will suffer.

And for those that don't speak Spanish.http://newsinthesun.com/all-inclusive-destructive-to-local-business/

A common sense view expressed at last, but as the organisation does not have the political clout of Ashotel it will probably be ignored. The economy needs people to spend their money in the local bars, shops and restaurants. The vast proportion of the money from AI holidays goes straight offshore into the multinational companies bank accounts, and does not benefit the local economy.

I don't think the choice should be of taking AI away, but people should have a choice of AI, HB or B&B in hotels, or of using fairly regulated private holiday rentals and villas to allow people a choice of where they stay. Not the dogs breakfast that currently exists, where most people who book holiday apartments have no idea (and maybe don't care) whether what they are renting is legal or not. Ashotel wants the Gobierno to stamp out any competition in the name of legality, when it is obvious where there interests lie.

If you go on the Hotel Booking sites you will see the different options available in Hotels, I have been looking at Puerto de la Cruz and most of the Hotels have a choice of accommodation from room only right through to AI.

You are correct of course, but the Goverment's aim is that all new hotels should be 5* or better and only offer AI. This has to have a knock on effect further down the line.

kind of ironic that the adverts running on this thread yesterday were for iberostar ,
our nearest hotel is part of their ever growing group. since Easter Monday they have been "reforming" and decorating several floors, and occupancy has been very low, and most of them are AI
Footfall past our shop has definitely dropped , and all nearby businesses struggling.

Your excellent shop is a favorite of my wife , I feel the renewed walkway didn't help your shop either but certainly the AI has caused havoc with a lot of businesses in the area and it seems to be only option being offered by a lot of tour companies . The money ends up off the Island and not in the local business community .
