August 9th was a perfectly clear night and the supermoon shone brightly.
Here's a photo taken in my back garden just after 9 pm.

Remember to watch the northeast sky tomorrow night (Tuesday Aug. 12) for the peak night of the Perseids meteorite shower which happens every year around this date.

Yes MM.....the meteorite shower will be seen worldwide. You may see some of it tonight as well. Tomorrow is supposed to be the night when you see more of them per minute, but of course it depends on how clear is your sky.
If you have a cloudless sky, try to get a viewing spot away from light pollution.
The darker the better and when your eyes become accustomed to the darkness, after 10 or 15 minutes, you should see some action.
It helps if you lie back on a lounge chair or a mattress on the ground!
Read about it here. (http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/aug/10/supermoon-perseids-meteor-shower-star-perigee-comet)

Another view from this morning, August 12, just after 7 am. You see the Tycho crater is now on the left side.

Seeing MMs thread about the moon I too took some photos on Sunday night...

I might just concede that yours are a little bit better than mine, Canarybird:o I even went online to see what settings I should try changing on my camera but still couldn't get any detail so I settled back in my chair and just admired the moon 'live' with a pint instead :)

A good way to watch the moon Addick. I know I'm always interested in camera settings when I see something I like.
I've photographed supermoons using the (M) Manual camera setting, f/11, 1/125s, spot metering and ISO of 100.
Using that setting and a long zoom last night the results were much like the others I've posted.

Another couple from last night, just to see how they turned out - camera still set to Manual:
This one at f/5.6, 1/38s, metering mode average, ISO 400. Long zoom.

And also last night:
f/11, 1/125s, metering mode average, ISO 200, in these cases the focus was on the branches.

August 9, 2014 my supermoon camera setting was set at f/7.1, 1/250s, multi segment metering, ISO 100.
In all cases I've cropped, resized and adjusted the final photos.
I'd suggest you try any of the above settings and see how you get on, keeping a note of the ones that work for you.
Thanks for the suggested settings, although I didn't get much of a chance to play with them last night due to the intermittent cloud and position of the moon in the early night, I did get something a bit better than my usual 'white spot'...

I'm sure I can do better with a few more adjustments and a firmer footing for my tripod - had to balance it on a box on a box to see the moon above the rooftops and trees. I did somehow manage to find an elephant lurking in the lilac though! Didn't even spot the 'silhouette' at the time of taking it. Who knew that Nellie lived in Kent :)
