I know how dangerous it can be to drive in flip flops or backless sandals as years ago I almost had an accident when one slid off and became stuck under the brake pedal. But here is proof (http://news.sky.com/story/1320178/man-drives-into-pool-as-flip-flops-get-tangled) that it does happen.
And here is a reminder that it is illegal to drive in Tenerife (http://www.tenerifeforum.org/tenerife-forum/showthread.php?16153-Be-careful-driving-in-flip-flops-in-Tenerife&p=172916&viewfull=1#post172916) wearing footwear with no backstrap, where your foot can slip out and the shoe can get stuck under the accelerator pedal.

When you hire a car, make sure it has a hand brake, as in one between the driver and front passenger seat! The last car we hired had a new fangled electronic thingy which made parking on a hill at Los Gigantes an experience not to be repeated. 5530
I think the idea was you pressed the button on the dashboard, the clutch and the brake and had to then quickly move to the accelerator to stop rolling into the car in front. It felt like a cross between playing twister and russian roulette to get it right.
Ever since that experience we've let the Titsa take the strain.

Always wear gloves, and when you have finished with the car after hot wiring . Put petrol over it and burn it out on waste ground. :flatcap: see link
