I saw this news story in the Manchester Evening News... I know everyone always jokes about stray cats and Chinese or Indian food, but this was a little disturbing to say the least!

How much truth there is in the story is hard to tell, but evidently it's a Chinese tradition that goes back hundreds of years to eat both cats and dogs. While my son was in the Navy and went to Hong Kong he witnessed monkeys and snakes being eaten in a local restaurant. :-((

I've taken the link off that I had added to my post, it was too graphic and sickening, but we can't close our eyes to the fact that it happens and the more immigrants that come into the UK, then the more we will see of their life style, including what they find acceptable to eat.

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/bin-bag-containing-severed-cats-7626419i used to have these debates back in the late 70's when we all used to be suspiscious of foreign food establishments, and after talking to many restaurant owners the consencus was that with the price of a prepaired chicken it realy wasn't cost effective to start butchering so called stray animals, however in one resaurant they did have frozen farmed dog portions but was only for other chinese customers as it was so expensive,to expensive to start using it in place of chicken and beef for us anyway, the most likely explenation would be maybe the ethnic european homeless population in manchester, after all they think nothing of eating our swans and carp;)

The Coarse fishing in Southern Ireland has really been hit by this problem and I fish there a lot. I also saw evidence of swans being barbecued. There were also reports of fishing wardens being attacked! Slightly off topic but of a similar nature.

In Cambridge people were prosecuted for killing swans.

On our last couple of Tenerife holidays, I've noticed a large drop in the amount of stray cats in the Los Cristianos area, should I be concerned about this?? :D

Oh the thought of Rat 'n' chips sounds absolutely mouth watering, possibly even more so than a visit to Burger King!
