Dont think there's any wimpy fishing on Tenerife. You need to go sea fishing from a boat.....decent Sting Rays to 50 or 60 kgs. Some interesting species in shallow water, like Puffer fish and Parrot fish etc on fresh sardine baits. Also sardine fishing from piers.

Only in the Bars ! as said ,they have no proper rivers - sea fishing !

There is a carp lake in the south somewhere.

Yeah!! There was some kinda fishing pool/ lake ......up in the sticks somewhere. I think I saw it for sale. chifleta might know!!:p;)

Yes there was a freshwater artificial lake up the hills, but not sure where it is i'm afraid... normally you have either deep sea fishing or off the coast/rocks like I do (not very often nowadays as I haven't got time).
