Today we went swimming with the Turtles..
Little did i know that they are in the small bay at Alcala till today .......
Must say we had a great time along with other nationalities pointing out ..."There they are ! "...
Unfortunately the photos don,t do credit to what one sees with the naked eye .....
Get there yourselves and see ...:)

Get there yourselves and see ...:)we wanted to try that in zante a few years ago,we picked a tour guide and set off, little did we know that they are sooo protected that we couldn't get within 100 yards of em:(,because we were on an official tour boat, there were loads of unofficial boats that had tourists stroking the turtles heads, but we couldn't even see them:(,they even have students camping on the beach all night to protect the eggs and if your plane is running late and can't land between a certain time they divert you to another airporteek2:

Maybe next time you are in Tenerife.. get to Alcala..you only need to walk along the prom and you can see them from there .without disturbing their natural habitat......swim with them by all means ........all new to me this day ....

We have seen them loads of times at Alcala. There seems to be 2 of them mostly although they do swim off to sea when they get hassled, there is quite a lot of training for scuba diving there unfortunately.

Best time we had was Christmas day last year, magic! Then home to cook Christmas dinner and a good bottle of red, what more can you want!

Loggerhead Turtles are called Carreta Carreta in Zante, they are actually called Carreta but in Greece when a species is endangered they use the name twice, very very protected there, as Marbro says protection is key with them and allsorts of groups camp there to watch over them, planes can only land between certain times due to landing lights on the aircraft, when they babies hatch their instinct is to head from the beach towards the moonlight and into the Ocean so they wont allow aircraft to land with strong headlights on in case they get confused and end up in the nightclubs in Laganas Strip.
Alcala sounds a good place to see them but always good to remember that they are wild creatures and should be treated accordingly and with respect they deserve.

We go to Alcala most Saturday's and my partner goes for a swim and the turtles are there swimming around, they don't seem to be put off by being so near to you, sometimes we see people touching them again it don't bother the turtles, when they have enough they swim away or go down deeper. They are lovely to watch.

A word of caution...it may be an offence to touch them, or go toooo close. Ye might check it out. Before someones in trouble;)
