There are a lot of very dark things lurking in that washing machine, Suej. I think peeps just put their dirty undies in there and wait for a kind person to fill it with soap and turn it on. It's sloshing away now, tg.

I don't know anything about Olbas sticks but will put them on my next UK shopping list.

I'll make us all a coffee now.

Miss Monkey I do hope you'll start to feel better soon. Probably the manic temperature changes wot done it.

I just went to the Pueblo to find almost everything shut and shuttered, no Post Office, no banks, just the supermarket and the chemist. I always forget Maundy Thursday is an official holiday here. Very annoying.

The Olbas stick are like the Vick's ones but are much nicer!;)

I remember being told years ago that the supermarkets are not allowed by law to close completely on two consecutive days so, logically, Mercadona should be open tomorrow but I wouldn't hold your breath! I think they get round it by opening some obscure supermarket nowhere near anyone and then, if challenged, they can say 'well the one at the end of the world was open' ....

I didn't check but I'm wondering if the petrol stations are even open!

Time for a siesta, I think.

Your socks are out on the line, Warbs. Can't imagine what GFG was straining through your socks but even if it's a cure for Monkey's cough I doubt anyone is going to go anywhere near it.

Don't forget to check in daily whilst you are home on licence otherwise more unkind things might be written on here.

Holloa ... GFG .... anyone there?

Sorry everyone, have been a bit tied up for a few days - well one has to have a fetish or two, doesn't one? Easter Monday I'll do a salmon and king prawn salad or else a choice of honey roast ham or cheddar cheese if you don't like fishy dishes. Also just for cainaries, I'll make a super banana custard with Cornish cream and/or ice cream followed by iced barraquitos.

Now, for those of you suffering with colds, etc., here is the recipe for:

Auntie Santi’s Cold Cure

Two parts water, one part red wine, one part whisky (or brandy), big spoonful of lemon juice, big spoonful of honey (the runny sort). Heat all slowly until starting to bubble. Add cinnamon to taste (or use a cinnamon stick), then allow to simmer for about five to ten minutes while breathing in the exotic aroma. While still hot, pour into a mug or basin, or bucket depending on how much you have made, and sip slowly – preferably in or next to a nice warm comfy bed. It’s a bit like a Scottish Hot Toddy but uses wine as well. Sugar or more honey can be added if not sweet enough and you can alter all or any of the quantities of the ingredients depending on your personal taste! If it doesn’t cure you at least you’ll have had fun trying!!

Funny you should ask that! Yes, got finished about a year ago (mas o menos) but just after Christmas the oven stopped working. It is now sitting under our dining room table waiting for the tecnico. Thinking of all the unemployed around if there is anyone who is qualified to instal and repair electrico-domesticos they'd get a very warm welcome here! The tecnico is renowned for never answering his phone and never coming but he is the appointed agent for Teka so we're marginally stuffed.

Blimey I was going to look on line to see if I could find any other recipies to see if I could try a new one

I just fry crushed garlic, onions, green peppers (chopped) different herbs say parsley thyme etc, in quite a bit of oil, then add the braising steak, carrots and green beans, tin of chopped tomatoes (lge) and beef stock and white wine. Let it simmer for however long you like until the meat is cooked. I try to work out when to add the chopped potatoes so that they don't fall apart. Cyprus potatoes are great coz the don't break up. Sometimes I put chickpeas in

I actually use my pressure cooker to give it a head start.

I welcome any variations please - I have never had a duff one yet and OH loves it. All mopped up with crusty rolls.

If I have forgotten anything will come back to you later on as I'm doing it !

ooops rock salt and freshly ground pepper to taste !

Thanks Monkey! Mmmmm sounds lovely! I'll start it all in a pan then put the lot in the slow cooker that will make the meat nice and tender and bring out all the juices! I've done potatoes in the slow cooker and they don't seem to fall apart so will put the whole lot in together! :thanx:

I'm also OCD about hygiene in the Kitchen can't be without my dettox spray and antibac hand soap!

I don't know how many Dungeoneers follow the illegal lettings thread but I would just like to post a 'thank you' to whichever Mod it was who went in there today and removed a whole load of irrelevant rubbish. How should I thank such a Mod - on the thread itself, do you think? If you don't know what I'm talking about just be grateful and pour yourself (and me) another glass of whatever you're having.

Happy Days....NOT

A starting handle! Even more antiquated than a choke! I had my Morris 1000 in North Wales and had driven it through deep snow to a party somewhere in darkest deepest Carnarvonshire. When we all staggered out I persuaded my German boyfriend to start my car with the starting handle. There were quite a few Germans at this party and one of them had an ancient Merc which refused to start. He wanted to borrow my starting handle for his Merc. He'd never seen one but he assumed they fitted all cars. Hah! Those were the days, my friend ..... ah, those were the days. All together now ....

I don't know about Tenerife (especially not darn sarf) but May and June here are often, um, actually, quite chilly. It is quite often colder here in June than it is in Engerland. Thanks for the birthday wishes, cainaries, have a few days to go until THE DAY, but couldn't fit in a week on the Reef at any other time!

I shall be doing the washing MM, I can fit in some for you on Saturday if you have it ready!!!!!!:washing:

Glad you found some sun, Santiago, as weather over here has been very mixed. Tonight at about 7 it was boiling hot and I've just nipped out with the dog and it's freezing (well, not literally). You're welcome to the red. We've probably got a San Mig or a Tropical for your TH if he can bear those.

Good luck with your guests. Straight back to work, eh?

Afternoon, Monkey, I'll pop the kettle on for a cuppa in a minute as it's a smidge too early for a vino (6 is the hour in this house). TH is Santiago's OH. According to her. If you can be a**ed to scroll up a few threads, you will find the answer to your questions.

Just read in the paper that they have had to scrap The Great British Asparagus Festival as the Asparagus has drowned in the floods. Wettest drought on record ... I know, I know.

I cant find any to drown My sorrows from the "Counting House".
Someone said Santiago drunk it all, but I think T.H. has sampled some too,
cos there is no San Miggy left either.

Good job I like the One Euro, stuff too, to help keep out the (welsh) cold.

MM, TH is the Tubby Hubby in case you missed the info before. He's really very sweet and has just treated me to a week on the "Reef" for a rather high numbered birthday later this month.

We have only been out there in April/May on one previous occasion as we usually go out in November/December, and we found it quite difficult to cope with the extra daylight hours as we were used to it being dark by 6.30pm at the latest! We kept missing the 6pm drinks round because it seemed like mid-afternoon to us. However, I do agree with cainaries that it is very cold in the evening and at night out there at the moment. I was glad cousin Maud had thought to put some blankets in the cupboard so we could curl up in those - and I even wore my socks to bed a couple of times because it was so cold! However, the days were nice and hot and sunny!!

Now it's back to medium cold Cornwall, 10C at the moment, and it doesn't seem as if there is going to be much sun to cheer us up over this bank holiday weekend. Thanks for the red, I'm going to save it till tomorrow as I can barely keep my eyes open!

Is the "sin" in "sin alcohol" the Spanish sin or the English sin? I am quite happy to sin with some alcohol, but don't think I want to try a without alcohol day/week/month! I have already given up smoking and have opted for obesity instead, now, if you take away my calorie laden treat, I shall end up all anorexic. Never mind, the sun shone all day today and I have my nice warm socks for tonight, so perhaps I won't miss the odd glass of red!! I am saving up my Euro's in my piggy and will make a donation as soon as the amount reaches more than the coat of postage to get it to you Suej!!

I have quite a language barrier with the doctors here, too, but our practice nurse is German so she speaks to me v.e.r.y. s.l.o.w.l.y in Spanish and we communicate quite well, so well in fact that she sometimes comes into the GP with me to 'translate' his/her Spanish into s.l.o.w. Yep, I'll be cooking and I'll see if I can find some tarts to cream! I like the thought of sausages - perhaps rolled in bacon and served with the entrecote steaks and with croutons? Nice crispy croutons make a real change from chips or any fried potatoes and you can eat as many or as few as you like. lots of salady things as well for the slimmers! I'd offer to join you but that wouldn't be politically correct!! As have been working all day will now settle with my nice bottle of red and watch warbs guzzle the brown. (yes, it is Newcastle - is there any other?).

Hope you slept well Monkey? Not suffering from any identity crises today I trust? I was pretty sure you were wrong about Crispy as she'd have poked her nose in down here surely to check up on the duvets? (Never mind the fact there were at least 3 of us under them last night).

I have suffered terribly this weekend sneezing all over the place - awake at 5 this morning - worrying about Janes (joking)

I had a thought it might be MaxineC but when she types at the end of nearly every sentence she uses three full stops

and how are you - someone mutual acquaintance seems a little quiet:wink:
