Hi there, future employer,

I am looking for work which can utilise some or all of my talents.
I have been living on the island now for 3 years, and have yet to find something which does more than pay
rent and bills.
I have an NIE, Social Security Number and Residencia.
I also have a full English and German driving license, and my own transport.

So. What else can I offer?

First of all, I am 53 years old, fit as a fiddle and able to work as many hours as possible.

The first 10 years of my life were spent in the Armed Forces as an Electronics Technician, working on guided missiles.
Being in R.E.M.E., I also got a thorough grounding in engineering principles during my apprenticeship, so I am
quite mechanically-minded as well.
During my postings to Germany, Germany and ...Germany, I learnt the German language, even going so far as to spend a year in Mülheim a.d. Ruhr at the Higher Education Centre there. (Iīll admit it is not too handy in a country that speaks Spanish).

Sadly, there were not too many guided missiles in Civvy Street, especially with 1960īs electronics, so after leaving the Army in 1987 I stayed living and working in Germany.

I worked for the next 3 years for an Opel dealership learning how to valet cars properly (not just a wash, wax and hoover).
I also learnt a bit about spray-painting.

In 1990 I returned to England after my divorce.
After a few dead-end jobs, I was offered a job picking daffodils in Cornwall. (donīt laugh! It was quite lucrative, and kept me fit).
I realised that there was always something being harvested throughout the year, so for the next 9 years that was what I did.

Eventually, I returned to Germany, originally just to visit a few friends and ex-wives, but within a week I had been offered a valeting job,
so that sorted that out. Unfortunately, the company ceased trading after 2 years or I would probably still be there.

I then spent a couple of years as a delivery driver (multi-drop) for a drinks company, delivering soft and alcoholic drinks all over Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Some bad news forced my return to England in 2003, where I went back to my old employer, working on the land.
Within a few years, however, the influx of cheap labour from Eastern Europe, coupled with price-fixing by the larger supermarkets meant that it was no longer viable (for me, at least).

A chance encounter with an old school friend saw me buying into an Engineering company (Picador- you may have heard of it, if you are above a certain age), which specialised in aluminium products, including vee-pulleys, plummer blocks etc.
This allowed me to make use of engineering skills learnt during my Army apprenticeship, and forgotten along the way.
I also learnt the ancient art of metal polishing (part of the company was dedicated to mail order polishing supplies).
I mostly polished engine components for cars and motorcycles, but I also "moonlighted" for a company called Wizards of Nos, who supplied and fitted Nitrous Oxide kits. I was the person polishing all their aluminium gas bottles.

Eventually, cheap Chinese imports virtually killed off the engineering side of things, and the competition from the internet made a large impact on the profitability of the polishing side.

In 2009, an old contact offered me a position at a caravan site in Lincolnshire.
During the day I was responsible for the caravans on site, and the grounds themselves, whilst during the evening I was Barman/Cook/Waiter at the on-site pub.
During my 2 years there I learnt a lot about basic plumbing, as for 3 months of the year I was laid underneath the caravans cutting out or replacing frozen pipes. (not fun!!!)

That was when I decided I needed to get somewhere warm and sunny.

Luckily, my mother had retired to Tenerife about 6 years earlier, so I had somewhere to go for a holiday.

Since 2011 I have been struggling to survive.
Iīve had a few dodgy jobs. (Iīm sure at least one of them was illegal), but only seem to earn enough to pay for rent, food and bills.

At present I am valeting cars again, but the pay is not brilliant and the hours arenīt enough.

So! I think you know enough about me.

All you now need to do is get in touch with me and make me an offer I canīt refuse!
My ideal job would be something that involved the following:

Driving.
Engineering (Iīm pretty good on a lathe).
Basic plumbing.
Bar work/Waiter.
German translation
Metal Polishing.
Anything to do with cars, including Valeting.
Vehicle spraying.

Or, if you think I would be suitable for something else, I am a quick learner and always eager to add another string to my bow.

* As the title says, I will work for free!!
If you decide not to hire me after the first week, then I will not expect payment, so you have nothing to lose.
If you do decide to hire me after the first week, the second week is on double pay, so then I donīt lose out.
I canīt make it any fairer than that now, can I?

There is, of course, one other option, which is to invest in me. Nothing major, but Iīd guarantee a return.
If I had money I would definitely invest in me, but things havenīt gone to plan lately.

Anyway, Iīm sure my inbox will get full pretty soon, so donīt hang about!!

Iīm available for an interview, or just an informal chat most evenings or weekends.

I can be contacted via pm

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Clive

With your skills, I suggest you visit smaller rent a car shops who own a good number of cars. They normally hire an inhouse mechanic. If you get an agreement with 2-3 of them you will be alright.
Just a thought and good luck
