Off up north next week for a couple of days. Just wondered if there are any fabric shops (or even markets selling fabric by the metre)in Puerto de la Cruz. Thanks in advance.

Yes there is a shop called el kilo in Puerto de la cruz, also the same chain in Santa Cruz, los realejos and la longuera. A few specialise in curtain fabric, but the one in puerto has both curtain and dress fabric at very reasonable prices.
If you can find the bank de Santander next to the church just up from the plaza del charco. Walk up the street that used to have the old cinema on the left. Walk towArds the petit cafe ( good for a coffee and cake) then take a left there. Walk up and the shop is on your right. Hope this helps

Found the street on the map. Walk up calle Quintana from the plaza del charco to the bank de Santander. Take a right to calle San Juan. Get to the corner where the petit cafe is and turn left. Not sure what this street is called but there is a small supermarket hiperdino or mercadona on the left. The fabric shop is on the rot a few shops up. It also had great fabrics for carnival fancy dress.

Sorry that I haven't done any sewing for years so am not up to where to shop for yard goods now but when I did, I went to fabric shops in La Orotava, one being on the main road just below the bandstand. But I don't even know if it's there now.

Other than that, there is El Kilo, as has been indicated, on Calle San Felipe, where light fabrics such as cottons and synthetics are sold. There is also an El Kilo shop in Toscal - La Longuera.

Yes great to hear from you again. I forgot about the fabric shop in la Oratava. Last time I was there they did not have much, but it is worth a visit if you are in the area. There is also lovely wee coffee shop across the road from the fabric shop called relieve, good for cakes. The fabric shop is next to the Ayuntamiente which is always worth visiting at this time of the year. The nativity scene is amazing.
If anyone knows of any other fabric shops let me know. I cannot pass them without going in.

Currie girl oh I also forgot about the one near the Ayuntamiento. The one I used to visit was in a series of shops directly underneath the bandstand, before you go up the hill towards the Ayuntamiento.

But it may not even be there now as it was years ago I bought some wool tweed for making a jacket.

(This again was in La Orotava.)

Only just seen all those replies. Didn't get any email notification and my online time is limited to happy hour in the local bar! So I don't always have time to check the forum.
Thanks all. Looking forward to our visit.
And the forecast looks good for Thursday and Friday up there too.

Thanks to you lot, I found El Kilo.
At first glance it seemed like an Aladins cave but, boy was it chockablock with stuff.
There was so much Christmas fabric for tablecloths and decoration.
I was looking for dress fabric though.
Did manage to find one roll I liked - a crepe de chine and 150cm wide. Not easy to find on our local markets in Cambs (UK)
8.90 a metre so very reasonable but not a patch on the remnants I found here on the GDS in San Isidro branch of Textiles Sur. Have managed to make three tops out of them at a total cost of 3euros. One of them is my Christmas top too!!
