PUTIN is flexing his muscles again sending armed flghter planes over Bournemouth and cornwall for the second time in 2 weeks. the answer from our politicians is " don't worry Russia is only reminding us of their military might "
but our government are saying commercial aircraft may be in danger should we be worried I know I will be when landing in Bournemouth airport next week

I don't know about military might, but they are certainly trying to make a point to the NATO alliance. I think that sometimes silence and a nil response is a good way of dealing with instances of this nature. I don't think commercial aircraft are in any danger but that is only my personal opinion.

It's called "Sabre Rattling". Don't worry about it unless you see the bomb doors open. :scared:

Lol..Putin is an old fashioned nutcase governing people who haven't seen the news for years.

They have nothing.....He can flex whatever he wants but the real people know full well he's only impressing himself and those daft enough to fall for it..

The majority of the rest of the world is against him and his actions and he's basically losing at poker.

Good luck to the lad but we've really got better things to worry about.....:tiphat:

If you're prepared to fall for the hype, yes....but the realitys are whilst they might have a button to push, they can't afford the electric to power it....Putin not only plays into the homegrown demographic, he also suddenly becomes the picture of the baddie we should all be scared of because he's the unknown....unfortunately for him, he's only unknown to his followers...

Remember "Two Tribes", by Frankie?...That was two different leaders in the video but dancing the same dance....It's nonsence. ..Work it out for yourself..Russia hasn't had any dominance for donkeys years..They invaded Afghanistan..Frightened the hell outa me but in the end, total failure..as with us to be fair...Then they pretty much lost everything and they collapsed....The whole system collapsed..You don't come back from that in this timeframe and start shouting...They are a spent force with very old fashioned ways that don't fit in with modern society.....

I think you underestimate Putin and more importantly, Russia. In my lifetime, mid sixties, virtually one man and one alone has taken a massive country, with a huge population, utiliesed substantial oil reserves plus valuable minerals, sits with a large percentage of the only untapped oil reserves in the world (under the Polar ice cap) and is viewed as a Messiah by a very large amount of the wealthy Russians to-gether with the vast amount of the rank and file Russians who have never left Russia. The country now shows the signs of jaw dropping affluence everywhere. Why on earth you make reference to Afghanistan is beyoned me since every western country has tried and failed to colonise this damned (in the true sense of the word) country in addition to the Soviet Union. The Allies underestimated Hitler and nearly paid the penalty for their arrogance.
Perhaps I,ve misunderstood your posting and not seen any sarcasim because you,ve otherwise failed to note that many countries, Germany included, buy large proportions of their energy requirements from Gazprom and its off shoots so could very easily hold many countries to ransom. Putin looks at Nato expanding into former Soviet Union countries as a clear threat to the very existence of to-day,s Russia and why shouldn,t he? Yes, because of the temporary drop in the price of oil, Russia is seeing and experiencing substantial financial sshortfalls just now but beware of awakening the Sleeping Bear that is Russia. Do not underestimate Ptin in any way. Remember its all very well for America to pontificate but as the only part of that country facing Russia is Alaska Europe faces a real dilema as to whether it will be able to stand on its own two feet?
I would caution you!

The simple answer is no.....nor did they.

Massive quarter page headlines with another quarter page picture of a russian bomber, then the story and at the very bottom was the wording..."at no time did they enter UK soveriegn airspace........

Sensationalism at it's very best...lol

Oh I whole heartedly agree. There's no denying there are other forces at work though.

If we can't trust our media to give us a straight story on something so serious then the reality is that people are basically being conned.

The whole story appears to have started when some false footage was screened on a Russian TV show nearly two months ago showing the moment one of Vladimir Putin's Bear Bombers supposedly flying over the English Channel.

Propaganda for Putin and his ancient war machines, there is no denying that they have plenty of manpower, but their weaponry to attack the Western World appears to be in very short supply.

I think that whatever government is elected or is in power in the UK should in view of recent world events make the appropriate decisions relating to defence and our capability to react to intelligence and threats wherever they are emanating from.

Was it false footage?

It appears to have emanated from a single sighting by a woman in Cornwall who says "I know what I saw" and as far as I can find, there is no film footage from any reliable UK source, which I find strange when we have thousands of enthusiastic plane spotters in the UK.
If this is the case that it's all in the imagination of one woman, then Putin must be having a good laugh at us and our gullibility.
I do believe though that we should stop listening to all the people whose only thoughts and words are spouting for further UK disarmament. Our three forces are at their weakest in living modern history.

it is fact that Russian fighters flew armed fighter jets by Bournemouth and cornwall they were flying through the English channel between france and uk we were told on the news that they did not enter our airspace, we the british and the French sent fighter jets to escort them away, so if they were not entering our or the French airspace why were we escorting them away, unless they did not have the appropriate air traffic control permission to fly where they were flying which brings me back to the dangers of unauthorised entry into airspace.
people may think some of us are overreacting and that we are 100% safe in Britain. I personally am no so sure with all the military cuts.

It's common practice for most military equipped countries to fly close to other countries airspace, it's a "we've got it and you can see it game", when my son was in the navy in a aircraft carrier patrolling in various parts of the world, they would launch the planes in places where they were often immediately escorted out of that particular area.

Somewhere in his house my son has photographs of pilots being "escorted" away from different regions and the pilots can be seen waving to each other, when I get them I will pass them on to martincrabb99 and he I am sure will kindly put them on the forum.:)

There seems to be some confusion over if the plane flew into British Sovereign Airspace or British Controlled Airspace, the Irish Government have stated that it flew into their controlled area, but not their Sovereign airspace.

The British Ministry of Defence say that it only flew into the British Controlled Airspace without warning or permission.

To me at this point it's all journalistic scaremongering, and as for the lady from Bournemouth.....she must have had very special binoculars to recognise a Russian bomber from twelve miles away!:D

The Press sensationalism worked on a Few didn't it..

First Post states "Armed" Russian "Fighters"

They were Bombers and unless Anyone has proof, I suggest They may NOT be armed.

If Vortex Wake spots this, He may know a bit more.

Whether They infringed on U.K. Airspace or not, the amount of Flights using the Southern Corrodors would cause concern

They are probably testing Our Defence capabilities, as They also do with Ships Worldwide. (Australia recently).

Nothing special, they are doing planned flights. And it happens every year. With any country who has air forces.
