I've never been asked for my counterpart licence in Tenerife.

I have never been asked for the paper copy anywhere apart from the UK ! Pity they dont give the countries where problems are likely to happen, probably similar to the non story in the Daily Mail, they cant.

Sounds more like an April fools joke. A code that only lasts 72 hours? Sounds a load of nonsense.

Hired a car for nearly 30 years and never been asked before? Not too bothered now as I have my own car now on the reef.

ohhh well as long as you're ok:lol::D

Can you pick Angusjim up for the meet up - you'll need a translator of course:whistle:

So any further news - is it for real or a wind up ?

It's not a wind up. The paper counterpart of photocard licences will no longer be valid/legal after June 8th for purposes of hiring a vehicle or if you need to prove your driving history etc. That is here as well as abroad where you are requested to provide it.

Thats where the bit comes in re getting info from DVLA which is only valid for 72 hours.

It's not the law as such.

It's up to the hire company as to whether they request it or not. :tiphat:
