Me and my husband plan on moving to Tenerife short term (for a year or two). I have been there before (only once) and everything seemed rather cheap but I was wondering what the actual cost of living was.

It's just the two of us, looking to rent a flat with at least two bedrooms long term, have tv/internet, grocery shop and cook from home (mostly).

Is it realistic for two people to be able to live quite comfortably off about 4000 EUR a month there? No mad luxuries but I wouldn't want to have to scrimp and save either.

I can't believe you asked this! It is 4 times what a lot of Spanish workers take home a month.

Oh, ok.

We won't be working there so I have no concept of what the earning potential is in Tenerife. Or what the cost of renting a normal flat is, as opposed to a hotel room haha

I think you may find it a struggle.

Really? Living off of 4000 a month, you mean?

How much would the rent be for a two bedroom flat, in a "not too touristy" area? Preferably near Puerto de la Cruz. And how much would two people realistically spend on groceries and toiletries, etc in a week?

Hi - I am unable to answer your questions but I think you may find that they are possibly just joking with you?

Hahaha ok... it's hard to tell when you just have no idea what's realistic :)

You certainly needn't pay more than €1000 per month for a nice 2-bedroom apartment in Puerto de la Cruz. If you look around a bit, you will probably pay half that. So you will be left with more than €100 per day for other things. Sweet!

You will be able to live very comfortable on 4000€ a month, you should get a 2 bedroom apartment for 800€ a month or less so there is plenty left over for food and bills.

2 bed apartment in amarilla golf cost between 650 euro to 800 euro but a villa cost from 1000 euro to 14000 euro per month

You won't struggle on 4000€ a month. Have a great time.
