ONE of the main criticisms about the southern section of the TF1 is about to end. Tenerife Cabildo has revealed a three-million-euro budget to cover the cost of lighting the motorway’s main areas to improve safety in the night hours.
The lighting will go from Santa Cruz to Adeje, and Transport Minister José Luis Delgado said the project would begin in mid-June in the main trunk stretching from the capital to Torviscas.
Now, only the route between Santa Cruz and Arafo is lit up. However, this section has suffered a few problems recently because of various copper-cable thefts.
Delgado said: “I hope this project is executed until the end, even if there is regime change after the local elections, as it will take a year to complete. But the financial funds are already in place.”
Upgrading the lighting between Santa Cruz and Arafo will cost nearly 470,000 euros, while another 2.479.000 euros will go on illuminating the 18 junctions between Torviscas and Punta Prieta.
