THE judicial district of Arona, comprising the boroughs of Adeje, Arona, Guia de Isora and Santiago del Teide (with a total of 150,000-plus inhabitants) has become Tenerife’s Criminal Capital.
The courts there heard more cases in 2014 than the capital city, Santa Cruz, according to data released by the General Council of Judiciary.
Arona tops the litigation tally in the Canary Islands, with 227 cases per 1,000 inhabitants, followed by Las Palmas, 215, and Puerto de la Cruz, 197.
Those with fewer cases were, as always, the judicial districts of La Gomera’s Valverde and San Sebastian, with 74 and 77 respectively.
Of the rate of litigation in civil cases, most of the archipelago hearings occurred in Las Palmas, with 43, and the lowest total recorded in Valverde, with 16.
But Arona does get the job done because the courts recorded the greatest number of resolved cases. Per court, they heard a total of 3,726 – an average of 10 a day, counting weekends and holidays – compared with 3,454 in Las Palmas
