Although not yet a fully functioning hospital there is also an excellant A&E facility in the part opened hospital by Chayofa, north of the TF1 at Los Cristianos, they take EHIC cards and have very very limited English. It is certainly open on a Sunday afternoon as my wife has had to use it ! Good service provided.

Maybe they have now changed but a friend went there with her EHIC card a few years ago and was treated ? But they do treat you with your Social card as a friend had a fall only this week end and was admitted and operated on for her broken wrist

Is the new South Hospital above Los Cris a public facility?

You need a health card,(tarjeta de sanitario)Residents ....., though they would do emergency treatment i would have thought.

Is the new South Hospital above Los Cris a public facility?

My understanding is that it is a 'NHS' UK type hospital and definately not a private hospital, evidenced by the fact that only the A&E bit has been opened, the rest still looks like a building site - if it was a private hospital everything would be available and probably have plant pots at the entrance - here it certainly looked like a public facilty although the care provided was excellant.

When we went a couple of weekends ago when my wife needed medical attention she got it without question - just showed her EHIC and passport and off she went.

Another hippie type chap who looked to have had a jellyfish bite on his foot got seen and there was a ambulance arrive with a 'whiplash' injury to a lady and a person who clearly had a few too many had been seen and as he left threw his discharge papers etc on the floor shouting about something as he left - without question not a private hospital patient !

With respect to all affected, the last four posts have been move to the Off Topic thread as they were detracting from the original intentions of the OP.

Thankyou for leaving my post intact, I presume you did not feel it was a patronising post and pleased that at least everyone can see the replies to my post in the 'off topic' thread should they wish to although they can no longer comment on them.

I thought that I should bump this thread up by LUCKY as it contains a lot of useful information for holiday visitors and Tenerife residents.
